No Event duplication for Concurrent Eras on Timelines

User Interface (UI) / User Experience (UX) · Timelines · Created by Kavriel

Currently, if two eras overlap, the eras will be presented sequentially and any events during the overlapping dates will be duplicated for each Era.

This suggestion is to simply overlap the UI display of Eras (perhaps in the margins instead of centered, or via color-coding) so that the event displays only once in chronological order.

This would not only add aesthetic value by minimizing redundancy, but could also provide visual representation for how the actions of one era led to the next (such as how developments in the real-world 'Cold War' era led to the beginning of the 'Space Age'.

The Team's Response

Duplications happen only if an even spans through 2 eras. This system was not built to handle this since it treats eras as "folders" of events. In the future this might change but this is a fundamental part of the way the system works,   Making a UI change to show the eras on the side would have been an easy change but this does not give an answer on some very important issues like the handling of different suffixes and date system changes through eras.

This doesn't apply to my worlds, but I can imagine having eras listed in the margins would be a huge improvement for people with overlapping timelines.

I want to vote simply because i think if I have concurrent events happening on multiple timelines(and one is in common), and they happen to coincide I'd still want them to show distinctly
