What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

The current problem I, and many of my friends, have with the current way to track things (Specifically arms & equipment, class features, etc.) is that it is extremely ineffecient, and you are forced to use it.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

There are two specific changes I feel are far more than just quality of life, and could avoid a lot of wasted time, and even worse, people disliking their experience with character creation enough to not want to use world anvil: 1) Allow people to just write in them like articles AND/OR put in IDs for statblocks. This would allow people who don't want statblocks or don't want to make/find statblocks to just not deal with the system. 2) Possibly try to make some sort of Integration with websites that have all the information needed for character creation (ex. for D&D 5e, there could be integration with Wikidot or another trustable site so all of the RAW or UA can be easily found for character creation, while still allowing public homebrew to exist.) Alternatively, just have RAW content labled in a way that makes it easier to access and isn't made by the community to avoid misinformation or unecessary info (An example of the problem with this is that it took me over 45 minutes to find a single sheet for class features, because all of them were either incorrect, badly formatted, or had about 10x the information anyone will every need to be on easy access for their character.)

What are other uses for this feature request?

It would make it significantly faster to make npcs; if you want to make sure you remember what they have but dont want to spend 20-30 minutes adding literally 4 items that should be able to just be written down as the name of the object.

The Team's Response

Most of the beans here replied clearly already but I will go with ddaniel's reply on this   you are not getting downvoted because its a bad suggestion, it's just something that's currently possible to achieve if you make your own stat block template. Wikidot is also by no means official, it's basically pirated content so 0% chance for that integration, the best you could get are places where you have to purchase the books again (like beyond) which is not something wikidot users would use anyway. Tldr.: you can already do this, just make the equipment fields text fields for example

The current system doesn't allow block designers to have statblocks include other statblocks —that isn't something the community can solve. And even the templates created by the WA team (and associates) require IDs rather than a nice searchable field. I'm hopeful this will change.

Would be nice to have integration with https://2e.aonprd.com/ for Pathfinder 2e.

The template system is provided by World Anvil for the community to create templates and then stat blocks with those templates. If you are unhappy with them you can make your own templates or ask the creator for alternatives.   I am pretty sure the D&D stat blocks do have the ability to just add an item without having to add the id.   And adding external content is an entirely different feature request that again the community can do.
