Create article based on selection in an existing article

New Feature Addition · Quick editor / explorer · Created by JanMarc

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

I would like to detail out existing, selected content in an article using the quick editor. This new article should be linked to the selection, as this is additional information to the selection.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Given text is selected in an article, while the quick editor is opened, than the text is copied to the article name and a checkbox is shown to link the new article to the selected text. In this case, detailing out existing content is easily possible.

What are other uses for this feature request?

If you use a top down approach in adding content to your world, you create overview pages and add details later. In this case you will have to create a page containing the detail and linking it afterwards. By doing this, you have keep track of naming etc. By using the "select and create" workflow, names and links are created automatically.

The Team's Response

Good timezones beans!   Thank you for your comments, sadly this did not receive much support and it is a bit complicated BUT I think I can make the message after an article is created better so you can easily copy / paste it into your current text.   I have added copy to clipboad buttons and redesigned the section.

This sounds like a dedicated feature with the only purpose of saving people a few clicks of the mouse and a few presses of Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. Just create an article with the quick menu and then copy the article link that is given to you in that menu after creation is complete. Paste that article link into the text that you are currently editing. Done? I don't think it's so bothersome to do by hand (LITERALLY a few clicks) that we need a quality-of-life improvement to make it easier.   Also keep in mind that you can create links to articles that you have not created yet. You can later click on these links to be create an article with that title automatically. Syntax for this is " title ". For example, if I'm writing the article "Superheroes" and want to mention Ironman for whom I want to later create an article, I would write the following: Ironman . Then I could view the Superheroes article and click on the Ironman-link to create a character article with the title Ironman. Yay! This is useful sometimes.

It seems like a rare use case. But there is some support, apparently. I guess a checkbox to un-tick if you don't want a cover displayed, would be nice for some.   Personally, I would simply upload a picture of a background colored, thin line and in the article under the design tab chose the line as the article cover. The cover container adjusts to whatever height your cover is. You just need to make it big enough that the search bar does not sit on top of your title and alas you have an article, that does not have a pretty picture at the top.
