BBcode enhancement

bbcode editing url new-tab

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

This suggestion is more of a "quality of life" update, and maybe I am an outlier becuase I am so new to the system. I wanted to post several links to resources that are outside the WA ecosystem. It would be nice if there were a custom BBcode update that would open links in a new tab or window rather than taking us away from our beloved WA.

I do not code, but I understand that BBCode is extenisble, so my hope is that a new code like [xurl] could be implemented to make only those links load in a new tab or window.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

I apologize for any redundancy in my explainations. This feature would eliminate the need for visitors to "right-click" on external links so they can explore the new site and not lose their place in WA...

What are other uses for this feature request?

The biggest reason I am suggesting this is to potentially have the ability to link to link to tabletopaudio.com streams without leaving WA. I'm sure there are other benefits and or uses that I have not yet pondered.

Follow up

So the following appears to be the method for adding... I don't Reddit, so hopefully enough people will see it here.   https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/bbcode/open_link_in_new_tab/
Guess what? I read the manual. Please accept my humblest of apologies. If you can, please delete this request as I am a rube.
To launch a url in a new tab, just add |tab to the url bbcode. Example: New Tab
Example:
New Tab

I tried. I guess my documentation skills need sharpened….

It seems to me that you can always right click and open in a new tab. I do it all of the time when navigating World Anvil.   However, if there is a case that I am mistaken, this could be useful to fix that rare (for me) situation. That said, I wish that external links would open to a new tab by default. That is common behavior for many sites and apps.
