transfer article-transfer article-transfer move-articles duplicate-articles transfer-to-world copy-to-world move-to-world
I have seen a request for this that got declined (the implimentation suggested was not sufficiant or something) so I thought I would have a crack at trying another version that might help with where it fell through.

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

As with the previous request that I have seen, if you are creating a world and starting fresh, and you have one that you are throwing out because old irrelevant information where 95% of the world is trash but you have that 5% that you want to keep and transfer into the new world. Would be a way to move these articles into the new world, or even duplicate them.
In my case, I have 5 different worlds running where I have characters and settlements that have been reworked over and over and started new worlds rather than delete 30-50 articles I created a new world and manually copied over the articles I wanted to keep. Doing it this way would take a long while especially if I was transfering a lot more articles than that.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

There are a couple ways that could be done to impliment the feature.
  1. We have collapsable section within the world settings
  2. We have a button that redirects to a whole new page specifically for transfering articles.
With the first option, in the world settings, you have mutiple buttons that show different settings for the world. Settings, Homepage, Date & Time, Monetization etc. This option would be tacked on to there at the end, probably "Article Transfer" or just "Transfer" When that options up, you get a list of the articles, timelines and historical events (doesn't have to be too detailed, just a title) next to a checkbox. Selecting what articles you want to transfer will show a button that says "Move To" or "Copy To" or even both. Selecting this brings up a popup that has a dropdown of the worlds you have created (or a create new world button as well if at all possible so that transfer runs as soon as the world is created). If the transfer could take a while then it might be worth having some form of process bar, this could be a literal bar with the process or even just an icon that appears in the corner of the box to stay its transfering and then a tick when done.   Doing the feature this way means 1) there is an easy and quick way to transfer the articles, and 2) the feature is hidden away somewhere that you have to specifically click on to find, meaning that it isn't in plain view of users who may not necessarily be using it.   The second option, will function largely the same way that the first one did, however, instead of being hidden behind a tab within settings. It could be a button on the collapsible sections to the right of the screen (either above or below delete world) Within that dropdown you could have a button which takes you to a new page or even a popup (whichever works out easier). Once there it will continue much like the first option whereby you select the articles, histroical events etc that you want to transfer and click a button.   Doing it this way will mean that there is less realestate being used up on the settings page and as with option 1, the feature is hidden away somewhere that you have to specifically click on to find.
Being a developer myself I understand the need to get the UI and UX perfect or at least as close to it as possible, and adding new features can be a nightmare when trying to get the balance perfect. Most of the development I do is on platforms that we ourselves don#t host and I know the limitations of the systems that we use. I don't know the limits of the servers etc that you yourselves use. I understand if because of people using the site that transfers run a little slow due to mutliple people transfering at once (this is why I also suggested the process bar/icon). I also understand that this might not be a feature that is used all that often by a large number of people. I just know that I myself am a very unorganised person when it comes to articles and my worlds, I also know that there will be people out there who are far more organised in their note taking and planning things out. But I do know that this is a feature that, while not used often, will be the kind of feature that will vastly improve the experience when transfering from an old outdated world to a retconned world.   If this is accepted, I recommend it being a low-priority (sorry anyone who is reading this and demanding for the feature ASAP) due to in large because of needing to get the UI and the UX for this feature to be balanced perfectly, and my idea for how to do it might (and most likely is) flawed in some way. But I feel like this would be something that many people might be interested in having even if they don't realise it yet themselves.

Follow up

I should specifiy that this isn't limited to articles. I also mention that this would be for everything that includes historical events (which currently has no way to transfer between worlds) as well as maps and the like, this is also a way to transfer these en masse as apposed to individual articles which as mentioned in the text woudl take a long time if there are a lot of articles, events, and maps you wish to transfer.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! Article transfers between your worlds are already possible (you can do so from the the Advanced Tools & Options section on the right of the article editor). As for implementation on other types of content, this is declined due to very low community support.

This is why we have community features, it can also show where they already exist.

I have done this many times (like literally every September and February) and I can assure you, what you want is already possible. Just search on the article edit page, you'll find it.

You can already transfer articles between worlds, the one that was declined was a request to copy a whole world

You can currently already transfer individual articles:   Edit Article -> Open Advanced Tools & Options (right side of the page) -> Special Actions -> Move Article To Another World
