add male and female species terminology on sidebar

in real life male and female creatures are sometimes called by terminology different than male and female, like man and woman, bull and cow, or buck and doe, etc. I propose a prompt to be added to the sidebar where you can type out the terminology of your creature's names for male and female. I would rather put the fact male dragons in my world are drakes/kings and female dragons are queens in the sidebar than put it in another unrelated prompt where it is ill placed.

The Team's Response

This one got very little support - I am not against it - just the ear of the community is not here yet.

I know someone pointed out that sex isn't binary, but I believe the meaning here was mostly for animals!!! However, it would be easy to add sections for all sexes!

If anything, I think the collective noun would be more useful (flock, school, gaggle, murder, etc.), but I don't see a reason why not

I somewhat support this idea, buy ONLY if it takes into consideration that sex isn't binary. Especially if you are talking about a fictional non-human species, applying human cultural conceptions surrounding the binary to this species is somewhat counterproductive in my opinion (depending on what you're trying to do, that is). The truth of the matter is that how we talk about sex characteristics in other species is heavily informed by our own biases surrounding sex and gender within our own species. Nature isn't binary, we only see it that way because of the way we use language, including using names like 'male' and 'female'.

Particularly in Sci-Fi, the number of genders isn't always 2. I suspect multiple geneders would be more complex but should be considered.

I think this may be a decent idea if approached at a different angle:
  • Many species of living beings (especially in fictional worlds!) are not reproductively distinguished as just "males and females" (example: bees, mushrooms), so naming a section with that would make it useless for (for example) an species that has a name for each of their sexes, or where one sex has different reproductive types.
  • -Naming inside a same species is usually more than just male-female and is divided on both sex, age and reproductive status, for example in horses you have foal, colt, filly, mare, stallion and gelding.   Due to this reason I think this should fall under the "life stages" section, or, if you want to indicate it on the sidebar, manually input it by using the bbcode for it (--Title::description--)

Decent suggestion, but as others have mentioned, you can easily add this yourself. Still voting it up a little bit, though, because I don't see much of an issue with it, and it could spark inspiration for some people.

You can just add it to the sidebar. You don't need to put it into an unrelated prompt...
