image-replace image placeholder draft upgrade detail

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Sometimes a worldbuilder needs to place an image to be featured in one or more articles as a placeholder for a future image or as a rough draft. When the image is created or upgraded, there is no easy way that I have found to place it everywhere and remove the placeholder/draft image. I guess the best way to replace the previous image with the new one would be searching for the image title or tags? It isn't very efficient. The feature I propose, I haven't found it being suggested before, is adding a replace image feature where you can select an existing image and replace it with another one from your library or by upload a new image. That would be a global replace, it doesn't need to be more complicated than that, so all interlinked relationships stay the same.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

In that way, you can have some images while developing the world and gradually upgrade them seamlessly as you are working on your world.

Indeed it is already possible as you said so no need to back it, thanks for the replies!

Unfortunately when an image is replaced, it gets a new internal name in WA. If you're using the image address in CSS code (.user-css-presentation ), it requires finding the new image address. Because of this, you have to still modify every article where you used that CSS code.   The replace feature is good when using image tagging from what I've seen, but a true global replacement is still needed I believe to correct this issue.

Copied and pasted from user "eccbooks" because I ran into this myself and dug around until I noticed the option.   "If I'm reading your request correctly, what you're asking for is already possible. From the Images menu, click on the image you want to replace. On the right-hand side of the screen, a detail pane should pop up for the image you clicked on. Scroll until you see the "Advanced Edit" button. Click on it. On the Advanced Edit screen, there is a Replace/Edit File option." - eccbooks

What eccbooks said. I have used this a lot when I had an improved version of a draft image. There is something similar for maps with the restriction that the image dimensions need to match the original map image, but I think for "normal" images that restriction does not even apply.
