Ability to affect the Manuscript View mode with CSS or just have paragraph indentation.

manuscripts -paragraph-indent manuscript-css

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

The View mode of Manuscripts does not have an indent for paragraphs and the CSS Extra Rules in the Document Settings does not affect the view mode.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

It will either allow us to use CSS to modify the display of the manuscript in View mode, or paragraph indents will be included as a default of the View mode.

What are other uses for this feature request?

If CSS modification is done, then an author can modify the View mode to suit their desire, within reason, of course.

Follow up

Just as a response to those saying manuscripts aren't a core feature of World Anvil, to get the Manuscript feature a paid subscription of at least the Master level is required. That makes it not only a core feature, but a paid for feature.

The Team's Response

Thanks for your suggestion! We'll address this, probably soon. Thanks for the catch!   And quick note about the follow-up: we definitely see Manuscripts as a core feature of World Anvil. While it might not be important for RPG users, it's definitely a core feature for writers!

I write long form stories in WA as simple articles, prose articles and manuscripts sometimes offering both formats to my readers, and whilst its true that articles and prose articles can do a lot, including perhaps better controlled layouts, I think manuscripts are more reader friendly because its easier to navigate chapters. They are also potentially more portable and I definitely support their development as a core feature. This particular request is not top of my list but I'd be happy to have it.

I would absolutely love to be able change the indent on paragraphs!   Next, I'm going to ask everyone stating that manuscripts are NOT a core feature one simple question... Do you know WHY WA was created in the first place? The Founder of WA, our lord and savior of all things world building, Dimi created WA for his wife, our beloved Dino Queen, Janet, who is an AUTHOR. WA wasn't built for just one single purpose. It was to build as a community and grow. It was designed for all types of creative people, from Dungeon Masters or video game developers to authors. We have campaigns and heroes and even article templates for plotting and campaign sessions. Manuscripts was added on as a feature for writers, which the Master tier is said to be the best fit for those just wanting to focus on writing more than world building or ttRPGs.   I understand that some people like prose articles, yet tearing down a feature of WA just because you don't like it isn't helpful. It comes off as rude and hurtful. If you don't like it, you don't have to comment. Just vote a suggestion down and leave it at that.   And for those of you also stating that "Dev time/resources should be spent on core features", what do you think WA is for? It's not just for you. It is for the ENTIRE community. As Kbignell put in their "follow up" section, manuscripts are a PAID feature. Paid features tend to be CORE features of a website.   Sorry if this came off as a rant, Kbignell. It really saddens me when people try to knock down a Core Feature of the WA community.

I agree wholeheartedly that the manuscript feature should be improved as it stands as one of the major reasons to get a paid subscription. I have made a suggestion of my own to those ends. If you like this suggestion, please check the following suggestion as well and be sure to cast your vote for both:   https://www.worldanvil.com/community/voting/suggestion/e12caa76-797e-45d6-8491-7f1553b448cd/view

I'm also going to voice that articles should be where you put your manuscripts. Dev time/resources should be spent on core features.

Manuscripts ARE one of WorldAnvil's core features, and part of why it exists in the first place. So yay for more options!

This is probably a slightly controversial opinion, but I honestly don't think manuscripts are actually worth development time. As a feature, to my knowledge practically no one uses them, they are incredibly limited in terms of what you can actually do with them compared to articles, and - as someone who writes novel-tier amounts of prose, ie what you'd think manuscripts are intended for - I find myself just using articles instead. While, yes, you could argue that this means manuscripts should be improved, I honestly think it's better to just host prose either in generic articles or a wordpress/other site if really necessary, and that development time should stay focused on WA's core features.
