Raise the "History" block position in organizations hierarchy

Organization Hierarchy Article

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently, the "history" section is very low in Organization articles.  The order is:
  1. Structure
  2. Culture
  3. Public Agenda
  4. Ressources
  5. History
The history is however the apex of storytelling and, usually, the more interesting section to read for people who are not already comfortable with the lore. Currently, if the above sections are filled, it can easily take one or two screens before reaching history.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Putting the History as first would allow a quicker access and an order more akin to the way we approach most structures such as countries or companies. Although it is not the order of encyclopedia britannica, for example, it is the order of Wikipedia's article.   This order is both more friendly (as it takes a real dedication to get interested in the culinary culture of a country or the list of ressources of a company) and more adequate to worldbuilding, allowing the narrative part to prevail.

The Team's Response

Thanks for your suggestion! However, we need to decline this as changing the order of sections would mess with the layout of thousands of articles across World Anvil. Remember that you don't need to use the predefined text fields; you can create your own headers in the introduction text box.

History should be at or near the top of every article template that includes history in my opinion

I'm with you on this to a certain extent. I too, tend to start with the history and that is often (or always) where the most interesting narrative goes in my articles so I should also like it to be at the top, but I do recognise that my use case is not the same as everyone else (I consider myself primarily a writer) and that for game players, a focus on how things work now is much more useful. I also think it's not a good precedent to set to start changing the order for folk who already like their articles and don't want to see the rug pulled from under them. Although in this case, I'd b happy with the proposed change, if someone else suggested something that messed with the order of articles I'd already created and liked, I'd get annoyed. If history had always been at the top, fine, I'd prefer that but given that we are where we are I don't see it being a popular move it change it. So that said, there are options to make things look like you want them too. The simplest is to take manual control and put a header for History in the base article after your initial summary. Add the content under that and no-one will be able to tell the difference between that and history coming 1st. This is my preferred option for settlements, for example, where I like geography 1st as it seems more logical. As an alternative if you have the right level of paid account you can customise your own template. That lets you change the order and if it bugs you so much you feel you need to do it all the time, this is probably the way to go.

I personally like the layout as it is now. Having everything in its current place makes sense to me because knowing about the structure and culture etc of an organization will influence how I view the history I’m given by the author. If reading the history first makes sense to a person, they’re free to read the history first. Nobody is bound to read anything in order if they don’t feel like it.

Might mess with currently existing articles to have sections move? It's not a precedent I'd like to encourage.
