Special:

• Will gives you additional mental stress and consequence slots. At Average (+1) or better, gain a 3-point stress box. At Good (+3) or better, also gain a 4-point stress box. At Superb (+5) or better, also gain a second mild mental consequence slot.
• Will is of reduced effectiveness against the influences and intrusions of disciplined psionics.  See the Deflect talent for a better option.

Overcome: You can use Will to pit yourself against obstacles that require mental effort. Puzzles and riddles can fall under this category, as well as any mentally absorbing task, like deciphering a code. Use Will when it’s only a matter of time before you overcome the mental challenge, and Knowledge if it takes something more than brute mental force to get past it. Many of the obstacles that you go up against with Will might be made part of challenges, to reflect the effort involved. Contests of Will might reflect particularly challenging games, like chess, or competing in a hard set of exams. In settings where magic or psionics are common, contests of Will are popular occurrences.

Create an Advantage: You can use Will to place aspects on yourself, representing a state of deep concentration or focus.

Defend: Will is the main skill you use to defend against mental attacks from Provoke, representing your control over your reactions. Will is also your primary defense against magic, psionics, and other powers targeting your mind.   However, when a disciplined psionic attempts to influence or intrude upon your mind, you may choose to actively oppose the attempt with Will at a -2 penalty, provided the GM decides you are sufficiently alerted to the psionic’s attempt to offer up such resistance. Alternatively, if you possess the Deflect psionic talent and the appropriate psionic discipline, you are immediately alerted to the psionic’s attempt and may choose to oppose it using either your unpenalized Deflect talent or your penalized Will skill.

Example Stunts:

• Strength From Determination. You can use Will in place of Physique on any overcome actions for feats of strength.
• Hard Boiled. You can ignore invocations and compels on a single mild or moderate consequence for the duration of a scene. At the end of the scene, that consequence will increase by one level of severity.
• Indomitable. +2 to defend against intimidation based Provoke attacks.
