Called so as a contrast from Blacksmithing, but also because whitesmiths usually work with noble metals such as silver, which is sort of white. The whitesmith works with small details and usually makes jewelry, cutlery and smaller things out of valuable metals such as silver and gold, but can also work with copper and bronze.
