Chaun

The chauns are often viewed by the Big Folk as signs of good luck. The sprites would say that this is true half the time: leperchauns tend to be bringers of good luck to people, bounding across the world in their green outfits and their large beards that reach down to their bellies (which, when you consider the added surface area required to get to the aforementioned belly, is actually quite the feat, even if they are less than a foot tall).   Should a person come across a hodorchaun, though, the story changes. While leperchauns are jovial and free, hodorchauns live under a perpetual proverbial cloud, causing gloom wherever they go. Together the chauns are a people of extremes, riding the highest and lowest emotions of the world. Ironically they often wear the same sorts of outfits and both grow beards, so it is hard to know which one you’ve come across until you stop to talk to one.   Chauns tend to love things that involve luck, for they are the bringers of luck (either good or bad). So it is not uncommon to find chauns gambling, attempting death-defying feats, or pranking angry old men purely to see how it will turn out. From a social and religious perspective this also leads to a high level (some would say, “dangerous level” at times) of fatalism: what will be will be, so try your hand at it and see where your luck will fall.   Chauns have an aversion to the Lore of Fire, but otherwise use spells from a wide range of lores.
