Creation Myth

Created by Allison Hawbaker

Summary

A great dragon creature created a dragon egg but the evil one made it so it couldn’t hatch or grow. The great dragon cried over the egg and the tears combining with the grime began to form land and oceans etc. So the great dragon decided to continue the process so the egg would live on. The great dragon then took some of the dirt that made up the land mass and created creatures to live on and care for the egg. The evil one tried to make the people work to destroy the egg, but the great dragon developed a relationship with them and convinced most of them to care for the plants and animals. Some did follow the ways of the evil one so the great dragon creature created dragons, small creatures similar to himself to be protectors, companions, and guides to the people who continued to follow the great dragon creature.

Historical Basis

The Alterrians have good relationships with the dragons in their area. While the animals live mostly wild in the mountains, some of the people are assigned to help care for and protect them, similar to shepherds. They do some training with the animals as well that helps them to trust humans. As far back in their history as they can remember, Alterrians have always been able to interact well with the dragons.

Spread

The myth is known throughout most of the country, though as time goes on, it is less believe and is just considered a story.

Cultural Reception

Originally, Alterrians wholeheartedly believed this myth. It was a part of their canon and a core part of their religion. The surrounding cultures, if they knew about it, would not believe it and would think it a silly story.

In Art

This myth, as well as the characters in it, are a large part of the early art. As time goes on, it is less core, but still used.
