Zonai

Zonai is ancient, and was first believed to be settled over four thousand years ago. It's the largest Island on Aburon, and its people are simple and traditional.   People make pilgrimage from far and wide to see Zonai, for it is said that the veil between the spirit realm and the material plane here is thin, and that things often slip through the gaps. The people here live in settlements, towns and small villages, with only one city - Moku, the crown jewel of the empire, and the hub of all trade and riches in Zonai. Though run by a single Emperor, the lands are split among 4 ancient clans, one for each of the four cardinal compass directions, and each one is watched over by a guardian spirit or North, East, South or West; Mokun, Hulilong, Sogen and Kita. These spirits are their own personalities, embodying the traditions and values of their clans' people, and have been in Zonai for as long as Zonai has been.   Steeped in tradition, the people of Zonai are one with nature, taking only what they need, as the lands always provide as long as they are kind to it - electing to live in simple homes and work simple farms in small hamlets spread across the land. They utilise the natural fauna and flora of Zonai in medicines, magic and as working beasts - in particular the travelling market Gringen, sat atop the enormous backs of the beasts known as Grin.
