Ragesian

Most Ragesians are cruel, rapacious marauders who revel in warfare and conquest. They are extraordinarily arrogant, and view other humanoids native to the Material Plane with nothing less than utter contempt. Even the most open-minded Ragesian is smugly convinced of his own ability to handle any kind of trouble that might arise on whatever backwater plane he happens to be traveling through, and many are bitingly sarcastic and rude to those they perceive as their inferiors. While others may find them caustic and condescending, Ragesians are often ambitious, clever, and uncomplaining in adversity - qualities that make them well suited to the vicissitudes of the adventurer's life. They are not particularly loyal allies and make few friends, but they are fearsome and tireless foes who don't know when to quit.

Male Names: Auguste, Lambert, Antoine, Gerome, Fabien, Florent, Elisee. Female Names: Monique, Nadege, Marivonne, Evelyne, Albertine, Emilienne.

Major Organizations

Krr'A'Ragis'Farak - The newly established Ragesian kingdom on Zoltas. Roughly translated, it means either "Ragesian Rule on New Land" or "New Ragesia on Unspoiled Ground".

Beauty Ideals

Women and men both view tall height, big eyes, small mouths, small noses, thin and graceful bodies as the ideal of beauty.

Gender Ideals

Women are expected to dress in typically feminine ways and be strong, self-confident, aggressive, and bold. Men are supposed to be polite, emotional, accommodating, and nurturing.

Courtship Ideals

A suitor expresses their interest in a discreet and friendly manner in order to avoid being perceived as very presumptuous or arrogant. Although having a series of friendly dates is the normal starting point in the Ragesian way of courting, this may also begin through the process of "teasing", a process of "pairing off" a potential teenage or adult couple. The teasing is done by peers or friends of the couple being matched. The teasing practice assists in discerning the actual feelings of the pair involved. This teasing phase actually helps in circumventing an embarrassing predicament because formal courtship has not yet officially started. Furthermore, this "testing phase" also helps a Ragesian who could be seen as shy, stupid, cowardly, and naïve in how to court someone. However, this type of admirer could overcome their shyness and naivety by asking for the help of a mutual friend of both the suitor and the admired, or a close friend of both families. The "bridge" acts as the suitor's communicator. Through this "bridge", the admirer can also ask permission to visit the admired at home from the family. As a norm, the couple will not be left alone with each other during this first home visit, because formal introductions to family members are done, which may be performed by the "bridge".

Relationship Ideals

Loyalty, passion, status.

Average Technological Level

WW1-era technology.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Ragesians speak their native language of Ra'ko, which is an amalgam of the regional languages once spoken on their homeworld. People descended from those regions still tend to have differing dialects reflecting their ancestry, but those original languages have been utterly lost. Empress Orlaith ensured this as a method of unification.

Common Etiquette Rules

Steer clear of gossip chains. Don't do anything that would embarrass your grandmother. Remember please and thank you. Do not be a braggart in the company of fellow Ragesians. Watch your cocktails. Keep your hands clean. Gum and formal attire do not mix. Engage in conversation with those you choose to spend time with.

Common Dress Code

Ragesians favor ornate and complex clothing with colors being a very individualistic choice. Formal clothing (for both women and men) tends to be somewhat revealing (shorter skirts, no sleeves, no pockets, etc.) as a method of demonstrating a lack of concealed weaponry. Unconcealed sidearms, whether sword or pistol, are considered part of formal attire as a means of showing readiness even in relaxation.   Battlefield attire varies depending on the unit's role. Infantry, whether armed with melee weapons or firearms, wear dull orange and dark blue uniforms. Cavalry and shock troops are outfitted with horned helmets instead of plain helmets. Officers wear black and red, though they will usually have a blue and orange sash or some other indicator to show what unit they are attached to. Inquisitors and other spellcasters are garbed black armor (if applicable) with a blue and orange robe over the top. High ranking officers are not expected to wear their uniform on the battlefield, and are permitted to wear whatever they wish.

History

Ragesians are natives of the Prime Material world Rakiston, but they have been forced to abandon their homeland after a great magical war scorched the sky and turned their world into a bleak and lifeless wasteland. Forced to leave their homeland for their own survival, the newly christened Empress Zarouhi Orlaith led them to another world to conquer using a combination of Spelljammer ships and Gate spells. They invaded the technologically advanced but magically barren world of Oilyx, a world the Ragesians were able to conquer after a costly war.   They could not linger there for long. Ragesians are an innately magical people and need magic in the land to sustain them. After only a few scant years to recover from one global war, they set off across wildspace to invade another world, one rich with magic: Zoltas. However, only a year into the campaign, Empress Orlaith and her most loyal retainers abandoned the campaign. Almost all of the Ragesians had been moved to Zoltas by this time, civilians included, and the alien invaders suddenly found themselves in foreign lands with no way to retreat.

Average Height

Average Weight
120 lb - 170 lb
Average Physique
Ragesians are tall and strikingly beautiful humanoids with long limbs, large eyes, and small mouths. They are almost identical to humans, and there is little doubt that the two species share common ancestry. General motor response in Ragesians is markedly higher than in humans, however; an increased rate of activity in the brainstem and central nervous system seems to be the cause.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Skin color varies as much as it does with humans, ranging from alabaster white to deep ebony. When Ragesians spend extended periods of time in places of low magic or dead magic, their skin takes on a yellowish tint as if suffering from jaundice. Areas of intense magic can cause hair and fingernails to grow at two or three times the normal rate.
