Zoedavian Church of Helene

History

The humans have always worshipped Helene as their chief deity, with the deities of other races being portrayed as secondary figures. At first it was a very grassroots religion, similar to early paganism. After the Great War, when the Alaran influence entered the Human culture, the religion became more structured, adding rituals, rules, and a priesthood.

Granted Divine Powers

Helene has a vast collection of spells and magic that she makes accessible to humanity. Only humans of pure blood can access this, so those who are part Alaran or part Elven cannot use these spells. These spells must be learned and some people have a higher aptitude at it than others. Aptitude does not correlate to religious or moral purity.

Political Influence & Intrigue

There is tension between the church and the royal family because of the Alaran bloodline in the royal family. The church has strict rituals at the solstices and equinoxes that the head of the royal family must attend.

Sects

Craft Hall - schools specifically for women to learn magic spells that will help them to be wives, mothers, and chatelaines. They are supposed to follow strict guidelines but many of the instructors there are subversive, teaching an older form of worship that is more organic and grassroots than what the priesthood demands.
