Personal history
Shion's family didn't have a lot of money when he was growing up. His parents died when he was in his first year of middle school. He and his brother, Tsubaki, went to live with an old lady who they visited often ever since they were little. Even though they weren't related, she was like a grandmother to them and they called her granny. Since they were little, she taught them how to play the shamisen, and how to read music and so on. Because of her, Shion was able to learn how to play drums and she encouraged him to continue because she saw that he had a great sense of rhythm. Their granny didn't have a lot of money herself, but could stay in her house comfortably with them thanks to her pension and that she owned her home. Tsubaki wanted to quit high school and start working, but Shion wouldn't let him, saying it was important to at least finish high school now. Tsubaki still worked part time while going to school, however, to save up some money.
In high school, Tsubaki was in the same class as Tsubame, and they got to know each other through a mutual interest in music. Shion encouraged Tsubaki to become better friends with him, and got Tsubaki to invite him over to their home so he could meet him too. The three of them then became friends. Eventually, Tsubame had Shion and Tsubaki meet a friend of his named Satsuki. Shion noticed that he played drums, Satsuki played guitar and could sing, Tsubame played bass, and Tsubaki played shamisen and could sing; so he got the idea that they could form a band.
When Shion was in his first year of high school, he started dating a classmate that confessed and asked him out. Everything seemed fine. His boyfriend was sweet, caring, paid attention to him, and loved to spend time together. As things went on,Tsubaki started to notice that Shion's boyfriend was starting to isolate Shion from others and monopolizing his time, which Tsubaki then warned Shion about. Shion thought Tsubaki was worrying about nothing and kept on dating his boyfriend.
After Tsubaki graduated from high school, their granny passed away due to old age. Because their granny had no other family to leave things to in her will, everything she owned was left to Shion and Tsubaki. The two of them sold her home and found a small one bedroom one bathroom apartment near their high school. Shion continued high school and Tsubaki got a full time to support the two of them. Shion never gave up on the idea of becoming a band with the others, and focused on finishing school and focusing on music.
When Shion was in his last year of high school, his eyes were opened to what kind of person his boyfriend really was. Tsubaki had confronted Shion's boyfriend about his tendency to control Shion, and then his boyfriend grabbed a knife and stabbed Tsubaki in the stomach with it. Shion was shocked when he came out to see what happened, and punched his boyfriend in the head to get him off of Tsubaki. The force of his hit sent him to the floor where he lay dazed. Shion quickly called 911 and soon cops and an ambulance were at their apartment. His now ex-boyfriend was taken away, and Tsubaki was rushed to the hospital. Luckily, anything vital was missed, and Tsubaki made a complete recovery.
After that, Shion was quite shaken up, and he only spent time with Tsubaki, Tsubame, and Satsuki, since he had lost quite a few friends when he had been dating that guy. Once he graduated high school, he focused all of his energy on the four of them getting their band off the ground. They played at live houses at any chance they could to get themselves out there. They soon got their big break through when a producer named William noticed their talent and offered to let them sign for a record deal. And so they made a debut with their band called Mangetsu Matsuri.

Mental Trauma
While in high school he started to date a guy who was a yandere type of person, named Yan (cause we're so original like this), and was very controlling of Shion's time and activities. Shion wasn't really aware of that Yan was doing such things, despite his brother Tusbaki's warnings. It was when Yan stabbed Tsubaki that Shion had his eyes forced open. Ever since, Shion has been too afraid to date anyone and spends his time mainly practicing drums, and hanging out with Tsubaki, Tsubame, and Satsuki. Shion has also been feeling incredibly guilty since if he had listened to Tsubaki and broke up with the guy, then none of this would have happened.
