Personal history
Sasaki grew up poor and would have lived his life as just another street rat stealing to survive, but the monkey Shinetogumi member picked him up and took him in. From then on, he was trained and it was planned for in the future for Sasaki to take over as the monkey member if he so desired. Sasaki was a quick study, and quickly caught up in his education and beyond. It was unfortunate that the Shinetogumi member that raised him was killed while on a case, causing Sasaki to join at a somewhat young age of 22. However, he was ready for the job, having already been handling cases himself as part of the force.
One of Sasaki's main tasks in the Shinetogumi is acting like a double spy. He is a known Shinetogumi member, but he also works as a high ranking member of a powerful gang. Which is the same role that the monkey member before him had. Sasaki's loyalties of course lie with with the Shinetogumi, and his close ties with the gang world allow him to gather plenty of information that would otherwise be unobtainable.
After joining the Shinetogumi, he met Shika, the horse member. He was quickly smitten with her, but he was too shy to say anything and instead took to teasing her about such things like her height and her super strength. This led to the nickname of chibi-oni for her by him, which she doesn't like being called but that doesn't stop Sasaki.
