Session 4: The Journey Begins

General Summary

  • The party returned to Northvale after their adventure in the Earth Dragon Cave
  • They decided to meet with Mival, the priest at the local temple, and told him of their adventure and destiny. Mival offered whatever aid he could provide
  • The party was grateful and asked him to gather the town to tell them the news
  • Meanwhile, Yngis brought everyone to his place, told his father, Bertram, the mayor, about what happened. They then gathered up some supplies for their journey
  • After gathering the supplies, Yngis gave Blu a Pearl of Power, which his father had been keeping in storage
  • Soon after, the group of young men presented themselves to town, were celebrated with a feast and an encouraging send-off
  • Beginning their journey to find the Fire Dragon in the south, they traveled off toward Seyda, the port town and sister city of Northvale, which lay on the other end of the Caldor Forest
  • However, the party stopped at the entrance to the forest when confronted with a thick fog
  • Trent called upon the wind from his magic staff and cleared a path ahead
  • As they continued down the road, they were met with yet another obstacle; a downed tree
  • To proceed, it was decided that they should cut a path through the tree. In their attempts, Rath briefly set it on fire with his fiery sword, but Blu doused it with his magic orb
  • Unfortunately, the echoing clamor of their hacking and cutting and the smell of smoke drew the attention of some manner of Mushroom People!
  • A FIGHT! Rath got hit with spores (gained a point of exhaustion)
  • After collecting themselves, they made more attempts to clear the tree, and then sat down to rest, but...
  • GOBLINS!
  • ANOTHER FIGHT!
  • Following yet another melee, Trent turned into a beaver and went to town on the tree
  • With the path finally clear, they continued along
  • As they traveled, Trent noticed a strange bush a little ways off the path, which he identified as a bush full of magical Gambler's Berries
  • Trent and Bud both plucked similar-looking red berries, but did not eat them
  • Ygnis plucked and immediately ate a vibrant blue one. He became visibly stronger and healthier
  • The berries on the bush became invisible to those who picked one berry, which fit with the stories Trent had heard about (you only get one berry)
  • The others didn't seem to trust this strange magic bush, ignored it and moved on
  • A short while later, the path ended at a ledge overlooking a fungal grove with two ostensibly identical paths leading further ahead. Trent descended into the grove to explore
  • By the right path, Trent noticed some dangerous entities known as violet fungi, which, by calling on the memories of the Wind Lord, he knew could also make an antitoxin that could cure Rath’s spore-induced exhaustion
  • Excitedly, Trent ran ahead and stabbed his dagger into one of these man-sized fungi, attempting to harvest it
  • Surrounded by four violet fungi, Trent was battered into unconsciousness by their fungal tendrils and nearly died
  • Yngis ran ahead and shoved a tiny muffin into Trent's mouth, somehow stabilizing him
  • Eventually the fungi were destroyed and the party was left to tend to their wounds
