Session 34: Aftermath

General Summary

The party began discussing everything that had just happened. The descendants of the Dark Ones were real and very much a threat, and even worse, they were working with this dreaded rogue mage called The Ascendant. Vaylin began explaining his understanding of the Ascendant and the Dark Ones and was concerned that he had been careless enough to be deceived and put the Magic City at risk. However, Vaylin did bring some good news; he confirmed the location of the Fire Dragon, he had possibly found Blasnir. According to the archmage, the Dragon was supposedly in the volcano to the south known as the Blazing Maw.   Unfortunately, Vaylin did not have a straightforward way to teleport the party to the volcano’s caverns. However, he theorized that since scholars believe Dragon caves to truly exist on separate demiplanes, the Earth Dragon, Tervus, who the party has met before, could possibly help by allowing Vaylin to use the Dragon’s divine resonance to hone in on the same resonance of the other Dragon. It seemed to be their only lead. The Dragoons had reservations about introducing Vaylin to Tervus. After going through all the options they could think of, the Dragoons decided to accept Vaylin’s proposal to wait until the next day and teleport through his arcane talents back home to Caldor, the home of many of the party members, to meet with Tervus.   After a good night’s rest and a hearty breakfast, the group went shopping. While at Crazy Aggbah's Discount Magic Item Emporium, the Dragoons got deep into the finer details of how the party loot should be used. Bud Towers, Rock Hard Hero of Our Time, wanted to bribe Aggbah once again to push the limits of the special teleportation permit the merchant has to use the magical gateway linking his tent to his other one in Marabin, the gateway which he had previously told the party he shouldn’t be using that way and could be thrown in prison for doing so.   The plan was to do this so they could send all of the party’s numerous valuable gems (later determined to be more than 10,000 gp worth) back to the childhood “friend” of many party members, Dingus, who now owns a jewelry shop in Marabin. However, Stanwick disagreed that this was a reasonable way to make use of their newfound (and likely ill-gotten) wealth. Instead, Stan wanted to receive his share of the gems and implored the party to make decisions that would benefit the group on their quest. After a long and heated discussion, Bud Towers, Rock Hard Hero of Our Time, dumped 5,000 gold worth of coins onto Stanwick. With his point made, the group eventually decided to take their valuables, get them appraised, and sell them off to better equip the group for the oncoming challenges. Another 5,000 gp or so was spent on fancy new magical armor for Bud, and another 5,000 gp was spent by Trent on a magic item replicating abilities he and the party already had, but let them use such abilities in a less cost-effective way, a very important purchase, to be sure! Everyone else spent the rest of the money buying up spell components, trinkets, rings, wonderous items, and potions of healing and resistance.   After this time spent eating, shopping, bickering amongst themselves, and harassing helpful shopkeepers, the young heroes later found themselves standing in the city’s main Teleportation Circle. There, as they stood in the runed circle, Vaylin worked his magic and brought himself and the party back to the forests of Caldor. Getting their bearings, Trent determined that they were a few miles south of their hometown of Northvale and would have to journey northwards through the woods for an hour or so before reaching the entrance to the Earth Dragon’s Cave. Some time passed and then it so happened that the group stumbled across a goblin encampment.
