Session 3: The Trial of Tervus

General Summary

With a deep feeling of disbelief and unabated excitement the four future heroes ventured through the secret entrance Tervus had opened for them. There the intrepid group found a hallway that was two abreast. Carefully they walked forward, unsure of what they were about to find. No sooner had they entered the ancient passage when a massive hammer, larger than even Bud Towers could handle, came swinging out of the wall and crushing the stone of the wall opposite its birth. The reverberations of the hammer's loud thud brought the young adventurers to the realization that what lies ahead was not just strange creatures that disappear when killed. What awaited them was something far more sinister. With the near-death experience fresh in their minds the group lurched slowly forward looking for any other signs of evil machinations when Blu let out a blood curdling scream. The ground just past the hammer gave way where Blu was standing. Thankfully the pit was shallow and gave Blu only minor cuts and bruises. After a second of collecting their thoughts the group realized that the two traps were not independent, but that the hammer was meant to slam someone atop the pitfall. Tervus had told the boys to venture forth and find gems, but now it seemed they would not make it down the hall.   At the end of the hallway of treachery (was this the cave of douchbaggery?) there as a door which was opened leading to a circular room. Each quarter of the circle had different markings along the walls. In the centre (British center) there was a stone basin with a small depression about the size of a fist. After placing various items into the basin, Rath placed the Orb of Direction in the basin. To everyone's surprise the Orb lit up and floated into the air. The light emerging from the Orb aligned with the markings on the walls, now seen to be four dragons. Upon searching around the room the daring boys found small items, one in each quarter, that seemed to have a theme. Blu found his first non-useless item in a skin that would produce sweet water upon demand (water). Bud Towers found a geode (earth). Rath found a candle (fire). Each quarter also had a hole in the wall that was the perfect size for the found items to be placed into, but Trent had yet to find an item. He instead decided to break wind into the hole in hopes that flatulence was the last element to be represented, but instead received no response. While the others placed their items in the holes, Trent found a storm in a bottle and placed it in the wall. With all four boys holding all four items representing the four elements of the four dragons in the four quarters of the room a door, before unseen, opened up.   The door led to a long, dark hallway. There was dust built up over the years, but Trent noticed that there were runes inlaid in rocks along the ground and ceiling. Prepared for anything, the boys slowly descended down the hallway, which was noticeably sloped downward. As soon as all four were in the hallway a loud rumbling was heard. Frozen in terror the boys awaited what horror the cave held for them. With a loud crash and a wetting of the pants a large boulder-sized sphere dropped down from the top of the hallway. The heroes scattered and pressed against the wall. The giant sphere rolled by, violently crashing and smashing anyone in its way. Upon disappearing from view the boys were slow to regroup and another loud crash followed by a rolling sphere instill great terror. This horrific contraption would have been their doom if it was not for the keep perception of the youngest who realized that there were runes on the top and bottom of the hallway and when damaged the sphere would slow down. Once the group was aware they smashed, battered, crushed and stepped upon the runes until the sphere stopped rolling. The party advanced through the bottom of the hallway, some walking, some dragged, until they were in a large room with four dragon statues with something sparkling in each maw. There were also two treasure chests.   After a quick rest to catch their breath Blu yelled "MINE!!" and began opening chests. Inside they found Adamantine Breastplate and the Dark Shard Amulet. Afterwards the four boys advanced to the dragon heads and retrieved their four stones. Each stone glowed and transformed into different shapes, each one a weapon to fit its new master. Power surged explosively into the boys, infusing them with knowledge and combat prowess. Each one learned in an instant what takes the greatest warriors years to learn. They mastered techniques that some of the heroes of yore would have lusted over. Before the boys could make sense of their new found power, a large rock monster dropped out of the ceiling. Instinctively, the group began moving as a cohesive unit. The difference between the young boys who entered a newly made crevice and the boys who were fighting now was obvious. Some wielded massive weapons, some could withstand monstrous punishment, some could wield arcane magics and some could cause the body to heal at incredible speeds. While dismantling the rock guardian, a second came to its aid. But they were no match for the boys who blasted the monsters with their inherited strength. After the rock monsters were smote to nothing more than rubble, the boys walked back to Tervus. The Great Wyrm explained to the boys that he did not know all the details but knew that the four needed to accept their destiny and journey to become the New Wyrm Lords. Without hesitation the boys agreed and were sent to seek out Blasnir in the south. The now-young men went back to Northvale to make preparations for the next part of their journey.
