Session 18: Assault on the Maroon Marauder Camp

General Summary

The team decided to split up the group, with Bud Towers (The Hero of Our Time), Blu, and Trent leading the way along the northern ridge over the location of the prisoner while Rath advanced along the western ridge to prepare the distraction.   Rath advanced opposite the rising sun towards the guard tower near the western ridge. Although untrained in the craft of stealthy advances, the weight of his mission focused Rath’s mind, forcing him to remain quiet. Rath transformed into his Wyrm Lord form and lit the side of the guard tower with his fiery willpower. Two of the four guards left the tower to get water, and Rath summoned forth his trusty scorch bringer guard. Four of the guard came forth and began spewing flames everywhere, without regard for their safety nor remorse for their actions. One of the remaining guards screamed in terror as he jumped from the guard tower, alight with the flames of justice. The other guard, the second victim of the guard, fell lifeless at the base of the guard tower. Horns began blaring, two more guards exploded into fiery death, and two of the scorch bringer guards exploded.   Hearing the chaos outside and taking advantage of his scholarly understanding of Orc, Moss, the Monk of Many Mouths, slipped loose from his bindings. Quietly approaching from behind, Moss double cold-cocked the guard, who quickly hit the ground, unconscious. He grabbed the key and opened the cages of the other prisoners. He opened the foot locker and donned his bracers, knuckles and ointment (his words, not mine), and prepared for what comes ahead.   Springing into action, Bud, Blu and Trent ran forth as a group, no longer just friends, but a coordinated team with a purpose. Blu reached forth his hand, calling upon the arcane puissance of his dragon-given powers and altered time around Bud, making him far quicker than any normal man could be. In a blur Bud made it to the base of the tower, calling forth his infinite reserves of anger and strength, he grasped the closest pole of the tower and heaved with all his might. Scales erupted from under his skin while he strained to move the immense weight of the tower. The timber began to buckle, the ropes holding the tower together strained under the pressure, and the tower slowly began falling over. While most people would sit in awe at the legendary spectacle, but the other Lumina’s Dragoons had come to expect this from Bud Towers, The Hero of Our Time, continued to pursue the enemy with righteous anger. The guards skillfully landed on the ground without any injury, revealing their true martial skill.   Trent leapt into action, raising his staff and calling upon the elements of the wind to swirl the clippings of nature around him, he cast an empowering spell upon his staff and changed into a bear. Bringing forth the power of his mighty maw down upon one of the guards, who had just finished his breakfast. One guard pulled his scimitar and charged Bud Towers, The Hero of Our Time. Slashing across his torso, the guard drew blood from Bud, but moreover he drew his ire.   Two of the guards fell from the tower, receiving minor injuries. One loads a crossbow and fired it at Blu. The bolt skimmed past Blu, who was well prepared for the attack. Blu unleashed the lighting within and fried the offending guard. Blu looked over the encampment and noticed that the majority of the guards were heading towards Rath and his distraction, and then braced for the next attack. Bud abandoned tipping the tower, which was apart of his plan all along, and took Earthheart and smashed one of the guards. The tower fell over, making a terrible crash.   Slowly Moss climbed up to Lumina’s Dragoons, announcing his intent of peace. Everyone quickly introduced themselves (including Trent, who was still a bear), and Moss told the team where the leader of the bandits was staying. The Dragoons quickly informed the Monkish Moss that they were there to liberate the prisoners.   Rath’s creatures were dispatched by the camp guards. Rath took to the air and began to rain down fire. The camp returned with a volley or arrows, which pierced through the magical armor of Blasnir and drew blood. Rath retreated to the entrance, receiving another volley with an arrow landing between his shoulder blades. Unable to continue the focus required to continue his magical flight and fell to the ground. The camp did not pursue him.   On the other side of the camp Blu, Bud, Trent and the newest companion Moss, were making their way to the boss of the camp to force him to surrender. In front of the group is a bandit with a massive mace. Blu held aloft the Eye of Lazulia and a torrent of icy death sprang forth towards the enemies. Bud, The Hero of Our Time, rushes forth and trampled the bandit with a large mace. Moss, The Monk of Mighty Mangling, charged another bandit with his quarterstaff and in a flurry of blows, sadly one of them was mistimed and the bandit slashed him. He responded with his holy fisting, which left an after image, leaving his opponent reeling in agony. They quickly dispatched the bandits, and Bud Towers, The Hero of Our Time, demanded all others submit to Lumina’s Dragoons.   And another guard fell out of a guard tower.   In response to Bud Tower’s, The Hero of Our Time, demands the bandits released the hounds. What happened next can only be described as an orgy of chaotic warfare, culminating in a wargasm. At the end the entire party was together again, and they headed to the prisoner’s tent. Therein they found most of the jail abandoned, but there was one treant and two children. The children were the ward of the Majestic Monk Moss Man, who was still watching over them. The treant had chains holding it back with a lock that was deceptively difficult to open, even with a key. Moss of Many talents informed the group that the spellcaster had symbols that were of Abyssos. Moss also knew that the treant’s was named Caparris. Trent began to breakdown into tears from sheer awe of a real treant. Trent asked the treant if he could just cut his arms off so they would grow back, and the treant said no. But he did mention a master key that might work.   Blu and Rath searched a tent that had a magic aura emanating from it. Inside there was a sleeping, drunk guard. Blu found a chest that had a slight magical aura. After disarming the poison needle, he opened it to find (lots of coins and gems, with a couple magic items). Blu noticed there were keys on the drunk guard’s belt. With some swift hands that led to questions of Blu’s past, he lifted the keys off of the drunk guard without waking him. With most things complete, Moss the Boss gave Bud Towers a spigot (for treant sap-letting?). After ransacking the entire site, many things were found (see spoils below).
