Session 16: A Spring in Our Step

General Summary

We went to our rooms to rest, bellies full of delicious meats. Upon awakening, all sorts of weird shenanigans had taken place. Trent’s pants were enchanted to attack him, both Blu and Bud Towers (The Hero of Our Time) had perpetual hiccups, and Rath’s boots grew laces and were tied together. The hearth had brown flames and was stinking of sulfur. The innkeep, Atum Pohmak, asked the intrepid adventurers to rid him of what might be faeries. Rath remembered a story of one of his ancestors that involved faeries, and that they come through mystical doors in the woods. Trent noticed that there were invisible little creatures in the sink. While looking at his belly button lint, the invisible bandits shaved a swath of Bud Towers' (The Hero of Our Time) epic beard off. Quickly grabbing a cutting board, Trent covered the top of the sink, trapping the faeries. After a brief discussion, Trent offered a gambler’s berry in return for the faeries to leave. They agreed, and one of the faeries ate the berry and stopped moving. The faeries attacked. Rath ran to resuscitate the dead faerie, but to no avail. Trent released a thunderous spell of concussive death and a few sprites flew backwards, as did much of the kitchen, their invisibility broken along with their spines. Blu whipped his wand, and directed bolts of watery force killed off all of the faeries. Rath buried the dead sprites. The innkeeper, was distraught over the damage, but instead of rewarding them for their help he offered to not charge them for damages, calling it even. So, then the team ate some breakfast before leaving for the Great Shrine with the dye merchant.   After three hours of travel, the sounds of wild animals could be heard from the forest. Quickly advancing upon the party, a wild pack of lycanthropes charged with reckless abandon. Trent focused for a moment and the skies split, bringing down of a deafening crash of lighting. A fearsome battle ensued, during which Trent was bitten by one of the lycanthropes. After dispensing with the terrible troops, the party continued on. Trent’s wounds, although healed, did not feel right. Mistral Staff was sending Trent a feeling of unease, an ominous foretelling of things to come. While continuing on his journey, Trent mulled over his current situation. He slowly came to the realization that he had contracted a TTD – Tusk Transmitted Disease, specifically lycanthropy. He also realized that he needed a special spell of Remove Curse to eliminate his disease. Lumina’s Dragoons traveled another two hours and arrived at the tower. Following the spiral path up to the top, they came upon a magnificent stone and marble structure with flower beds surrounding and throughout. There stood a woman who appeared to be at the entrance in order to greet people to this haven of serenity.   Lumina’s Dragoons went on to meet Juline Muhloone. She welcomed us in and explained the temple layout. Trent fell at her feet, asking for her to help him. She picked up on his overacting, but she was genuinely worried about his well-being. She advised us to go see the high priestess, Phelindria. While walking to meet with her, the group overheard talking about Ness, the governor’s daughter, and her singing. It turns out that she was very talented as a singer, but had a rival, Eva, who may be better (and was a familiar villager from their hometown of Northvale). They also stated that Ness had gone off on her own, saying she was visiting a childhood friend. Other rumors were similar to those heard elsewhere, such as concern about the increased hostility of monsters or brazenness of bandits. Also of concern was this mysterious masked mage called ‘The Ascendant’, whose real identity no one can really decide upon (some say he’s a Dark One, a cultist, a con-man, a rogue mage, etc.).   Phelindria was the most beautiful woman we have ever seen. Blu began talking with her, asking for a private audience to explain our mission. After a brief explanation, Rath transformed to reveal his true nature. Then Lumina’s Dragoons asked that Trent be healed of his affliction. Phelindria acquiesced. While curing Trent’s curse, she noticed the Leather Golem Armor was also cursed. She went on to cure the armor’s curse that had been a bother for some time (mostly due to the hypermetabolism), but leaving the beneficial enchantments.   After receiving the Head Priestess’ blessing and the Applications to enter Arcanum, the party pressed on to attend to other matters.
