Session 1: Humble Beginnings / Descent Into the Earth Dragon Cave

General Summary

  • The story began in the small mountain of Northvale, on the Isle of Caldor, where they were preparing for the annual Goddess Festival. It was for this festival that the players were to perform the Tale of the Wyrm Lords
  • During the performance, the festival was interrupted by an earthquake
  • The party’s friend, Yngis, came to tell them that a fissure had opened up near the mountain
  • The mountain, according to legend, is where the Earth Dragon Cave is supposed to be and it didn’t take much convincing for the group to go on a treasure-hunting quest to explore the Cave
  • It was their hope that they would be able to return home with sacks full of precious gemstones
  • Descending into the fissure with a rope procured from the general store with other supplies, the party ventured forth into a strange, illuminated cave
  • Soon, they came across a treasure chest, but were hindered by a pair of Rodents of Unusual Size
  • After dispatching the pests, which seemed to disappear into the aether once defeated, two potions (Climbing and Healing) were discovered
  • Pressing on, their expedition was stymied by green slime that spread across the steps leading down into a large chamber. With some quick thinking from Rath, and the aid of the Climbing Potion, Bud knocked loose some rocks to shine sunlight down on the slime
  • The slime withered away and the path ahead was clear. Spying another chest, the group moved forward, only to be interrupted by some giant fire beetles
  • Bud took a pause in the battle to loot the chest and discover an Orb of Direction and a Clockwork Amulet
  • Taking some time to tend to their wounds after defeating the beetles, and recovering the beetles’ fire glands (that can illuminate areas if used in the next four days), the party took a short rest to inspect their new items and prepare for the next leg of their journey
