Delora Devesti Sanlain (Duh-lore-uh Deh-vest-tea San-lane)

Delora is a wizard who specializes in the school of necromancy. Despite her education and the typical view of necromancers, she has broken through those barriers and become a well-respected fleshcrafter who makes her home on the outskirts of Truce. As a fleshcrafter, she is skilled in the art of manipulating skin, muscle, hair, fur, and other tissues of things both living and dead. While she has the skills necessary to create flesh golems and other horrible monstrosities one might typically associate with a necromancer of her talents, it is not, nor has ever been, the path she walked.   At the age of 21 she completed her education in Necromancy from one of Truce's most prestigious universities and immediately began to seek work within the city limits, hoping to attract crowds of people whom could use the touch of a masterful fleshcrafter. Her vision of her practice included fixing the battle scars of valiant warriors, removing unsightly blemishes from otherwise beautiful faces, balancing a person's bodily proportions, or perhaps even performing heretofore impossible procedures like perfecting the separation of conjoined siblings so they may lead fulfilling lives. However, the people saw her talents differently and her business was constantly avoided, mocked and sometimes even vandalized. Her services were viewed as unnatural and an affront to most deities and creation alike. A few saw the good she was attempting and there was just enough customers to keep the business afloat, but the gossip, rumors and outright hate became very tiring.   One day, another skilled mage walked into her business and asked if she would be willing to work with non-humanoid creatures in her fleshcrafting work. While somewhat unfamiliar with such things, Delora could not refuse the generous offer and accepted the task of using her talents to taxidermize various critters that were recent kills from a nobleman's hunt. The task was long and tiring, but eventually was executed meticulously and flawlessly. She managed to near-perfectly recreate and preserve the bodies of a rabbit, an eagle and a wolf. The mage who originally presented this offer was stunned by the quality of the pieces and then introduced himself as Santiago Sanlain, a court wizard to nobility and specializing in the school of transmutation. His admiration of Delora's work quickly turned to adoration and he would come by regularly to her business to present her with more work that was sourced from his connections to nobility who wanted their hunt trophies preserved for antiquity. Eventually, the two would spend more time with one another, both while on and off the clock and in a scant six months time Santiago presented Delora with a beautifully fashioned silver filigree band beset with black opal, her favorite gemstone. The two shared an intense embrace and the pact that had already been made in their minds was sealed with a kiss. Shortly thereafter, they partook in a glorious ceremony at the All-Faiths Church, under the gaze of Azuth to solidify their bond once and for all.   For ten long, happy years, the couple shared everything with each other: tomes of knowledge, clientele that required specific talents, secrets they had kept from even close friends and family, and so much more. They acted more often as a single unit than as two separate entities, their bond so strong. Eventually, Delora's business would expand and reach many more people who had need of her services. The rumblings of her skills being unnatural and unholy faded into whispers and then into history. Lines would form outside her building, consisting of people from all over the land who needed everything from scars removed to finger lengths readjusted to even having limbs reattached. This, on top of her outstanding taxidermy, did have a slight downside though. Occasionally the requests she received from certain clientele were of an unsavory nature. While no one dared to ask her to perform anything that would be objectively evil - the raising of the dead, the creation of fleshy constructs or turning something into a horrid abomination, for example - there were a few who would ask for extra appendages, thicker skin, chimera-like additions, or something purely cosmetic in nature when they possessed no obvious flaws to correct. More often than not, she would turn down these types of clients and she held steadfast to the ideal that her talents were best suited for those with genuine scars, defects, imbalances and difficulties in life that she could help correct.   Unfortunately for Delora, the happiness would not last. In time, more and more of her business became taxidermy and superfluous uses of her fleshcrafting abilities, which she had no choice but to accept in order to keep a decent living. The work slowly slid from a passion to a chore. However, the worst of it came when she received news that her husband, Santiago, was mortally wounded by a stray arrow from a nobleman's hunting group as they were tracking down wargs in a nearby forest. One man in particular had bad timing and even worse aim when trying to help Santiago fend off a pack of the ravenous beasts and let fly an arrow into his back rather than the back of a pouncing beast. Thankfully the group managed to succeed in their hunt, but not before realizing that Santiago's wounds were likely fatal. Despite their best efforts, the mage was on his last breaths, unable to receive the healing he desperately needed in time and thus ordered the men to deliver him straight to his loving wife while he still had breath with which to speak. They granted his wish and delivered him straight to Delora's practice, wherein the two shared a final, bittersweet embrace, before she took him into private chambers so they could say their last peace to one another and give a proper farewell. Her power may have allowed her to keep him alive through necromantic means, but her principles did not allow it, and her wealth may have afforded her a means to resurrect him, but it would certainly have left her penniless. Even had she begged and pleaded with the nobles they both faithfully served, she knew they would not offer a single gold piece towards their well being as the upper class were growing bored of their magically-inclined business partners, seeing their talents less as miracles and more as parlor tricks as time goes on, especially with how prevalent magic is on Zatvor. So instead, she decided to perform a ritual that had never been attempted before and stole away a piece of Santiago's body for herself, to be forever preserved and carried with her as a reminder of their love, and a promise that she would never again love another man for the rest of her life. Shortly afterwards, she closed her business, gathered together what was left of her wealth and moved to the outskirts of Truce , leaving notes detailing how to find her should anyone ever need her services again, but to only come if their need was genuine and not facetious.   In recent times the rumors about Delora have again stirred. There are tales of women who travel out to her new home only to never be heard from again, and sightings of fleshy abominations, some appearing to be stitched together from various body parts, are on the rise. Some believe that Delora has gone mad from losing the love of her life and no longer uses her powers for the good of the people, but instead is preying on young people, women especially, who seek out her services.
