Rishad

The Rishad, according to the elves, were once the predominant race on Zammintar with vast cities and advanced magical arts especially with regards to enchantment and transmutation. They rose to a golden age due to their highly adaptable nature and ability to evolve swiftly to suit any climate. But over time they began to experiment on themselves in order to force nearly instantaneous evolution so as to insure their dominance. Their plans went awry and caused intense pain and incredible changes which warped and broke the minds of the Rishad subjects. These subjects became hulking monstrosities and unyielding juggernauts that quickly overcame their experimenters. After freeing themselves from their lab prisons they quickly overtook the populous at large wiping out any who were not like them. Requiring no food to sustain them due to their regenerative properties they eat whatever they grasp for long enough but are not known to finish a meal. This results in a terrible way to die as they seldom are alone one may find multiple eating only pieces of you. These regenerative properties can even go so far as to create entirely new beings from removed pieces. However fortunately enough they have seemingly lost the will to reproduce on their own. Though they have been documented doing as much when their population dwindles enough that they can gorge themselves. They remain alive as a species by being illusive. There are a few ways to avoid or bypass their regenerative capabilities. Fire and acid among the mundane and more complex ways among the magical. The elves speak briefly of a purge to lessen their numbers and drive them back but their efforts were too little too late and all but the monstrous remnants of the Rishad remain, simply as nightmares for some but as an ever growing threat to those who know their secrets.
