Pents

Though once a solid coin the Pents are now no more than bank notes with the prescribed amount written in the ancient numbering system so as to take up less space and conserve more paper. Because the system extends to so great a number it is almost never seen written with multiple characters. The transference of coinage to notes was a simple idea to lighten everyone's work and simultaneously track everyone's worth. Pents are uncommon in the smaller cities and villages as it could take days to travel to the nearest bank. So those traveling outside higher society must often take out wealth from the bank in order to complete their travels. This has resulted in many a trapped merchant or traveler as the Pents became valueless scraps in the more rural areas.

Some Pents are made from extravagantly processed papers treated with magic or chemicals to alter color and marking. Likewise those higher quality papers bear a trace remnant of the practitioners aura and can be verified as to their authenticity, at least as far as to its origination from the printers. Other Pents that are not crafted with assistance from practitioners often bear validation numbers that track uniquely to not only the bank but the patron as well. These have proven slightly more secure and have seen implimentation in the highest echelon of banking combined with practitioner varification.
