It is tradition not only in Eskarina but all throughout Zammintar that the parents obtain permission before attempting or conceiving a child. Though the reasoning has been lost this has been used by monarchs, rulers, higher classes to manage the size of the lesser populous. The reasoning often used by the Lords and rulers often boils down to the tracking of those under their protection or those required to pay homage or taxes to them. Small villages still practice this though they know no ruler or lord. The elder will almost certainly always give their blessing.
