Betrothal Bracelets

In The Hook it is common practice for a person to craft or at least purchase a bracelet for their intended. The bracelets are a symbol of the person gifting the bracelet and in many ways can also be a sign of affluence. Though it could be just as likely for a whitesmith to make the bracelet out of common materials to show they are more than just their trade or for a specific material to be chosen as an homage to the recipient's preference or characteristics.   It is also common that should a bracelet break or deteriorate beyond repair without replacement it is indicative of both parties intent to separate. This can also indicate the proper waiting or grace period after one becomes a widower for one to find a new spouse.   In Zannie's ford where precious metals flow and are worked as commonly as iron or clay it is not unusual for these relationships to last a lifetime or the bracelet to be broken intentionally. In the event of the latter it is talked about for weeks or more. It is also predominantly the women in Zannie's ford who propose to the men, and as such it is highly regular for a man not of the town to be off put by this forward behavior from a woman.
