Port Fallengrove
Port Fallengrove is one of the 7 city states on the continent of Anadare. It’s crest depicts a sword stabbing through a serpent eating its own tail. It was once a major port, but with reports of dangerous waters 50 years prior, many refuse to set foot on the cursed land. The one thing that made it out of the town in recent years are their famous sea shanties.
Demographics
Wealth is very hard to come by in Fallengrove. Even Baron Marcus Berabard would be considered J’mon the middle class in most cities. Most of those that live here are farmers or fishermen. Many did not choose these jobs, and do so purely out of necessity due to the little amount of food that the city gets.
Government
The government is run by Baron Marcus Berabard, who has ruled for nearly 40 years. He runs the city with what some consider to be an iron fist, and what others believe to be a necessary firmness. Either way he has regulated much of the cities activities. Any food brought into or made in the city must go through a distribution process where every citizen gets an equal amount of food. Those who made the crop are compensated for their contributions, but those found smuggling food could be subject to a swift execution.
Defences
Their defenses are rather lacking, any walls that existed at one time have been harvested for their materials and used elsewhere. The guards, like every other poor soul living there, grow hungry, making them less than formidable.
Industry & Trade
Many would be traders fear this location because they believe the land is cursed. They also don’t have much for exports as no one can get the supplies or money required for long distance travel.
Infrastructure
Due to the desperate measures of the citizens, many have perfected new boat designs and methods of farming crop. Though many of these inventions are years above many other cities, the financial situation of the citizens prevents them from traveling to spread their inventions. Their boats are the most impressive of these, as they have created small boats that can survive in rough waters. Some have even reported sightings of these boats oceans away from their home, as they have outlived those manning them.
Assets
many of the assets here have been run dry, and other than a few basic general stores, you can’t find much in the way of artisan crafters.
Guilds and Factions
To try to lighten the spirits of the citizens, some creative townspeople have developed a game in which they throw a leather ball roughly the size of a watermelon into a net goal. The town is divided into 6 teams, The Bashful Bass, The Sly Salmon, The Troublesome Trout, The Bold Barracuda, The Eccentric Eel, The Heinous Herring, and the Crass Catfish. Every year the town gets together at the start of Warm Winds.
History
About 50 years ago, the land seemed to mysteriously stop providing for those living there. The fish population began to dwindle, and land became infertile. No one knows the cause for this sudden shift, but it has affected the city drastically. The baron at the time took little action, and eventually he was overthrown by a young Baron Marcus Berabard. He promised he would fix this issue, and he tried. He did all he could to enforce better farming habits and regulated hunting and fishing to let the population grow, but his effort was for naught. The land still do not provide. Many of the people living there refuse to leave, however, because they believe that was the location where Sir Elliot fell The Serpent that Hungers. This spot is comparable to holy land for these people, a part of their culture.
Architecture
This city, like every city in Anadare, was built on top of an ancient city now abandoned. It’s stone foundations still sit from ancient times, and wood has been used to repair the buildings. Much of the rock here is very smooth due to the erosion of the water and winds. Barnacles and mud can be found more and more the closer you get to the shore.
Geography
The city is build mostly on the downward slope of a large hill that meets the shore of the
ocean. It is often cloudy and gets a considerable amount of rain.
Natural Resources
Many here believe the land has been cursed, and they have reason to believe this. The only current resources are stone, water, and lumber.
