Dragon

Dragons are giant winged serpents that can breathe fire and telepathically communicate. Not only their fire breath can be dangerous, they have long claws and sharp teeth as well. Of course, you'd have to do something really wrong to anger a dragon, since they usually do not attack sapient species.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragons have a large skeleton with four limbs and a tail. Their heads are shaped like a lizard's skull. Their horns are a part of their skeleton.

Growth Rate & Stages

A baby dragon will need about 50 years to reach adulthood. So there are lots of teen dragons that are more wise than adult shadowfolk, for example. The horns start growing after about 10 years, and will be fully grown when the dragon reaches adulthood.

Ecology and Habitats

Dragons like to live in caves, where there is shelter from the weather, and where they won't be completely visible to the outside world. These dragon caves can get very hot.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dragons hunt for large animals. Like cows or deer for example. A dragon doesn't need to eat very often, they will only need to hunt twice a month.

Behaviour

Dragons are very wise, because of their age, and will not attack if unprovoked. They will sometimes be able to befriend a humanoid, but this happens very rarely.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Dragon scales are an extremely rare potion ingredient. Potions with dragonscales in them will grant the drinker truesight: they will see all the magic around them, they will be able to tell who is a true friend and who is using them, they will see who is lying and who is telling the truth. And one life-changing thing will be revealed to them after drinking the potion.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dragons can sense magic from 50 meters away. They can also breathe fire through their mouths or nose. They can communicate with other intelligent species.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Their scales can vary in size and colour depending on where they live. Dragons that live in areas with lots of plants will be green, dragons that live close to big bodies of water will be blue, dragons that live close to volcanoes will be red and black. Dragons that live in icy areas will be white or grey. Dragons who live in a desert will be yellow. In other words, they will blend in with their surroundings, as much as that is possible for a huge flying serpent.
