Book of Blades

He was rather overwhelmed by a few blank pages, last I heard.
The book of blades is a special item owned by various mages around the world. The book of blades is an item not used to read, but used as a defence tactic when in trouble. Open the book, rip out a piece of paper, and throw it like a throwing star, and the paper will manifest into a blade and slice the opponent. These books are very rarely owned, and can only be bought privately or made yourself.

Manufacturing process

With a regular book, cast a spell of blades onto it. If done correctly, you should see a bright flash of light, and the book will glow with a silver shimmer for a few seconds. The shimmer dies down, and leaves a book with a glistening silver sheen to it.

Significance

These books were often used in the Akaran Empire, a large empire of talented mages in Ascor. The Akaran Empire at the time was infested with spies, so these books were sold privately to everybody in the city to protect themselves. After the wildfires that ravaged the country, these books went up in flames along with everything else. Luckily, some books were kept in a vault that survived the fires, and hundreds of years later were retrieved and kept in a private gallery.   Since then these books have been a precious reminder of the Akaran Empire and are a holy symbol of it.
Rarity
Books of blades are extremely rare to come by. There are only two ways to legitimately obtain the book of blades. One way is to use spells to enchant a book on your own, using the spell of blades. This will cause the book to explode in a silver shimmer, and then the book will sit on the floor with the same silver shimmer.
The second way is to purchase it privately. Since the book of blades is so rare, special, and powerful, a signature of competance is required to show that you won't mishandle and/or misuse the book. These signatures can be aquired by many high-ranking mages.

This was a fun article to read and I can vividly picture this being used in a fight. Sounds like quite the book to have laying on one's nightstand.
