Chaos Orb

This is an orb, which when peered into, contains dark, swirling depths, punctuated by flashes of multi-colored light.


Chaos orbs, also known as Kalfaxi orbs, are created by the Kalfaxis Cultists as a tool for spreading Chaos. Different varieties can be created for different purposes:

• Corporeal -- induces chaos that affects the physical properties of living beings (i.e. how you look)
• Mental -- induces chaos that affects the mental properties/state of living beings (i.e. how you see/hear/think/etc.)
• Spiritual -- induces chaos that affects the spiritual/emotional properties of living beings (i.e. how you feel about things, your ideals)
• Temporal -- induces chaos that affects the fabric of reality in that location
• Magical -- induces chaos that affects the magical ability of living beings

Mechanics & Inner Workings

These orbs immediately induce random events (per the Chaos Orb Mechanics) when a being touches the orb (or an object crafted to harness the orb) directly.
If a being is changed in some way by the orb, whatever facet is changed can then become the origin for further random, chaotic events interacts with that facet in the manner suggested by the orb's type. It can be considered similar to a disease in this transference. The "disease" is "fought off" as beings act lawfully. Beings that are strongly chaotically aligned may never "fight off" this "infection" and will thus continue to be a carrier to others, whereas those that are neutrally aligned may become "inert" more quickly physically apparent effects may take longer to face, if they fade at all. Beings that are fundamentally strongly lawfully aligned and act in accordance may resist being a carrier and may be able to remove lasting physical effects through continuing to act according to their lawful nature.

While extremely powerful, the orb is not magical in the sense that it has not been imbued or created with magic from any of the known schools or types of magic -- rather, it is raw power harnessed directly from Kalfaxis. This power can be traced to beyond the Outer Planes.
