Yernim, the chaotic wastelands

Yernim was once a thriving world filled with life and people, moderately advanced and coming to a state of world peace. Due to this the Chaos beasts that roam the interdimensional space decided this plane would be the next location for a war of pure chaos.

At this point, 4 major rifts appear around the world, opening to realms of chaotic creatures destined to destroy this world.
  To the North was the demons of khorne and the beastmen of nature from the plane Vertrilin, working together to pillage raze and burn worlds to the ground, never settling in one place lest they start taking their own skulls.
  To the east was the warrens of the skaven and other creatures of an underdark like massive cave world named Abannos, the skaven seeking to claim the goal of the chaos wars, saught out into the world even though it is so bright.
  To the west was the mountain world of grogakva, the orcs and ogres flooded out searching for spoils to take for their own, seeing this as a new world to raid. Having little clue to the reason of the war they were here just for the chaos.
  To the south was the mysterious plane of Xava-navi, a station powered by the goal of the wars, they practice dark magics and mechanical practices most other places see as morbid, terrible or downright illegal.
  The goal of the chaos war was physicalized magic. This manifested in one of many ways. The most common was that of runite ore that could be refined into metals capable of much more than usual. The second most common was mana gems, capable of fueling spells or devices for long periods of time. the rarest of all, the mana crystals was pure crystalized magic capable of much more than the rest at a much smaller size.
  The formation of physicalized magic and the war on the world killed the worlds soul, damaging it permamently and causing it to become the wasteland you see now, most life struggles, and lush enviorments are all but nonexistent. Spells that pull on nature or life are all reduced in capacity, just as the world is.
  After the long war, The large rift gates were closed, most moved on to their next conquest and left this world in the shambles it now is. Here is where our party will begin, a world ravaged not once but 4 times for both pleasure and resources. Surprisingly the world still occasionally makes physicalized magic leading to small bands of remaining forces still fighting over any remains.
