Sugar Pine

The Sugar Pine is the tallest pine tree, as well as the longest pine cone. It is native to coastal and inland mountain areas within Aldersong and Hubub. 
A grand tree species, it can grow over 250' tall with trunks averaging 9' in diameter. These giants spawn slender pinecones often exceeding 20" in length. The needles are high in vitamin C and are stored by rural northern mountain communities to be consumed during the cold, sunless winter months. Due to their high acidity, northern Jinni raiders will often use them as a substitute for citrus or vinegar in their cuisine.
The sap from the trees is exceptionally sweet and rich, making it a valuable commodity. Adult trees with robust trunks are tapped starting in autumn with the process lasting 6 to 8 weeks. A regional culinary treat, Gold Floss, requires Sugar Pine sap to make. If the sap is repeatedly heated and cooled, the sap can also be turned into a resin useful for ship and house building.
