the world of yenzyke is much like the real world, until the beginning of the 700s where a man named Merek Melramarc discovered an ancient cave while fleeing from wild dogs. He fled into the cave where deep inside, he found a pedestal. sat atop the pedestal, there was a book. unbeknownst to Merek, that book was imbued with magic. He picked the book up and opened it. the second it happened, magic burst from the book. intantly, Merek became a powerful spellcaster. few can live up to his power even after a lifetime of training in the magic arts. raw magic and the weave already existed, however, nobody knew how to manipulate it, or even that it existed. Merek used his magic to slay the wild dogs which chased him, and he showed his newfound power to his village. the villagers were in awe, and he taught each and every one of them how to cast magic.   Eventually, the king caught wind of a village filled with magic users. He sent his royal guard to the village and demanded the villagers explain themselves. Merek showed him his magic, and in awe, the king demanded that he teach him. And so, Merek was taken to the capital and forced to teach the king and his family magic. The king decided that magic should be reserved exclusively for male nobility, and burned Merek's entire village at the stake. fast forward to the year 1532, regulations on magic have lessened, but not much. commoners are now allowed to learn magic if they can gather enough money to enter The Magic Academy. the rule that no woman can learn magic remained and any woman caught using magic would be burned at the stake.   After magic was introduced to the world, the gods, still slumbering in their respective planes, each woke as a reaction to the magic which suddenly began being used. the gods, waking to a world which is filled by creatures unknown to them, started filling the world once more with their creations. suddenly, dragons began soaring through the skies. goblins started raiding villages. people were becoming aware that there isn't just one god, and that not all of them are good.   as the years have gone by, gods have started granting magic to those who worshipped the gods.   while other gods exist, the planes are mainly overseed by a pantheon named the big 2. yen, the god of all that is good, and overseer of all that is good. and zyke, the god of all that is evil. once every 500 years, yen and zyke gather to do battle. the fight can last a couple minutes, or it can last centuries. the victor's side gains more power, while the loser's stays the same. this boost in power affects all of the gods on the victor's side differently. while one god may gain an ability, another might gain a powerful spell. the affects of this change are directly tied to how much favour that god has with the big 2 member which oversees their faction.
