The Ibekko (ee-beck-oh)

The ibekko are a type of shape-shifting goblin fae that typically take on an appearance similar to that of the regular High Fae. Because of their ability to shift forms, they are known for being mischeivous trickters who like to play pranks on the fae folk and any humans who happen to enter the fae realm of Lyfeldea. Due to their reputation as unbeatable and strong wrestlers, the taewangs (High Kings) of Hwajaegi have long enlisted many ibekko into the rankings of their military, in particular the King's Guard. As they are solely a creature of Hwajaegi, the Kingdom of Flames, all ibekko possess the ability to summon elemental fire magic. Those in the mortal realm of Venadeus believe the ibekko to be "big, ugly and hairy creatures with thick, leathery skin".

Basic Information

Behaviour

While the ibekko enjoy being playing pranks and being jokesters, they usually act in such a manner due to their desire to make people laugh and smile. They are also incredibly talented farmers and have been known to assist the people of Hwajaegi in their agricultural endeavours to ensure good harvests, particularly when their military services are not required by the taewang.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

When using their ibekko fire magic, the eyes of an ibekko will shine the same shade of blue as their fire.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

While the ibekko can be found in any part of the fae realm of Lyfeldea, they are native to the Lyfeldean kingdom of Hwajaegi, the Kingdom of Flames. Most ibekko do not stray from their native kingdom, as they feel their magic is stronger within the bounds of their home country.

Average Intelligence

Many ibekko are intelligent in terms of battle and military strategy, particularly those lacking in physical strength. However, ibekko are usually poor at socialising with other folk outside of their species as they resort to wit and sarcasm to hold conversations, which can often offend many they are conversing with.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

All ibekko possess the ability to wield elemental fire magic, though ibekko fire is distinctly different from regular fire magic in that theirs takes on a blue colouring, while all other elemental fire across the realm of Lyfeldea is either red, orange or yellow. It is believed that the ibekko are an ancient species of fae and were the first fae folk in Lyfeldea to possess elemental fire magic, bestowed upon them by Jebyeoli, the Goddess of Fire.   As previously mentioned, the ibekko are also known for their shape-shifting abilities. While most ibekko shift between their High Fae form and a preferred animalistic form, some ibekko are also able to transform into inanimate objects. A noteable ibekko in Lyfeldea is Beomsu Choi, who is able to shift into a wolf.

Civilization and Culture

Common Dress Code

Any ibekko who does not serve in the Hwajaegi military, or is on leave from their duties, will almost always wear clothing in various shades of red. Typically, the only accepted exception to this code within the ibekko people is when they are wearing military uniform. They also possess masks that are able to turn them invisible when worn over their face. Each mask is unique, with a rune on the inside of the mask where the forehead sits. These runes are specific to each familial clan and are infused with the blood of one of the ibekko’s parents, ensuring only direct relatives can wear and use the mask. The appearance of these masks is likely where humans get their myths about the ibekko from, as the faces of these masks depict horned, red creatures with huge eyes and protruding white fangs.

Average Physique
The average ibekko is broad and muscular, possessing a warrior's physique. For this reason, most ibekko are strong wrestlers and physical fighters, a trait that is highly regarded by the taewangs of Hwajaegi.

I adore how misunderstanding something and judging from appearance can create such a vastly different vision through legends~!
