Spirits

Spirits are beings without physical form, beings of pure Magic . Because do not have physical forms, their interactions with the physical world are limited. They can use magic to indirectly interact. For example, a water related spirit can manipulate water. They can however, have more domain over souls, minds, and emotions, which still makes them potentially dangerous.
  Some spirits wish to have more control over the psychical world to gain more power and domain, so they attempt possession. Other spirits are annoyed with limitations of the physical world, and rarely leave the spirit world for that reason.
  Working with spirits and views on their nature varies by culture and religion. Those within the Order are afraid of them, viewing them as manifestations of their betrayer god. Elves view themselves as kin to spirits, siblings separated by the physical plane. The dwarven view them as extensions of the earth, and frequently offer to them. Followers of Tasakm view spirits as pure pieces of divine, and seek to learn from them.
 

Minor spirits

These spirits are quite common, with little power. They are generally more friendly and have limited communication skills, not because they are stupid, but because they don't care.
 

Alux

Alux are stone and cave spirits. They don't bother with anyone until their territory is trespassed upon, prompting them to become mischievous and sometimes dangerous, often causing stones to fall.
 

Aziza

Aziza, forest and field spirits, are overall friendly. They can be prompted to help hunters search for prey, in exchange for a small gift, such as a very pretty flower.
 

Aitu

While classified as minor spirits, Aitu can be rather dangerous. Villages offer to it to appease it, and in turn, it protects the village. Those who would harm the village meet gruesome ends.
 

Demon

A corrupted, malicious spirit is known as a demon. They actively seek out to cause misfortune, too far gone to see reason or care for bargains. Some spirit workers have attempted to purify them, but results are inconclusive.
 

Major Spirits

These spirits are very rare, and can pose a serious threat if they intend to harm. They are very intelligent, can be reasoned with, and have desires beyond the simple wants of minor spirits.
 

Elementals

The oldest spirits of Xanthiri, they embody the essence of the elements, as their name implies. Their personalities can vary, but overall seem to be benevolent. To meet one is an honor, as there are very few recorded sightings of them.
 

Wraith

Wraiths are demons who have possessed corpses. It is unknown why uniting with a physical form restores some semblance of self. Incredibly dangerous and powerful, they are intelligent and can sway other demons to serve them. While they still have a desire to cause harm, they can be bargained with, though it would be unwise to do so.
 

Arch Demons

Demons who are able to survive for a long time and do not become Wraiths may become Arch Demons. They form distinct personalities and spiritual bodies that can interact with the physical world. They have their own society and rules different from Wraiths, who tend to be lone wolves.
 

Ghosts


  Ghosts are neither classified as a minor or major spirit, as their origin can be traced and their power and sense of self varies too greatly.
  Ghosts are the result of a curse, born of a tragic and traumatizing death. The victim, in a state of panic, curses a person, place, or thing, leaving at least a sliver of their soul behind. This is often done unknowingly, usually regarded as some sort of self defense mechanism. Anyone can become a ghost, even non mages.
