Hesychia

Hesychia, which directly translated from Gorgorian means "the calming" or "the silencing," is a powerful drug invented by Gorgoron alchemists and utilized for centuries by the patriarchs of prominent Gorgoron families. It is a milky white liquid which lacks a notable odor and posesses a faintly sour taste. Hesychia is a variant type of paralytic, it steals the use of one's limbs and renders the victim unable to speak. It also heightens the sensitivity of one's skin, and lowers the pain thresholds. Patriarchs have long prized hesychia for its ability to weaken targets, allowing them to more easily capture and imprison political rivals and rebellious family members alike. Torture while under the sway of hesychia is said to be the most excruciating experience a person can undergo.   Following The Combining and the formation of the Republic, hesychia was outlawed. Anyone caught with the drug in their posession faces severe corporal punishment followed by a minimum sentence of five years imprisonment. Those caught manufacturing hesychia are often sentenced to a slow, brutal death, the method of which is dependant upon whichever species catches the culprit. Still, there are rumors of archaic Gorgorons in Xalendria's High North that continue to use the drug, simply with more secrecy than they once may have.
