Firebell

The Firebell plant grows exclusively in the tundra of Wyrth. Despite being a flower, it not only grows solely in the harsh, frigid north, but only blooms during snowstorms. This has led to much mythologizing of the plant, and it serving as a symbolic representation of resilience and determination.   Most notably, Firebell plays a part in the Lách Doire legend of the Lord of the High Mountain. In the many stories about him, one of the consistent entities is the Firebell having been created by the other Lords to allow mortals a way to combat the Lord of the High Mountain. It's believed that, should he return from his slumber, the only way he can be put down again is with a weapon covered in Firebell. Supposedly, it will be as a poison to him.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The anatomy of the plant is quite simple. The actual flowers are bell-shaped when not in bloom, hanging from a drooped stem. Contributing to the imagery is the pistil having a nobby end, like the clapper of a bell. The leaves are vaguely heart-shaped, and have wavy edges.

Genetics and Reproduction

Like all flowering plants, the Firebell reproduces sexually via pollen. Unlike most, they don't spray their pollen into the air, but rather hang on the fur of animals.

Ecology and Habitats

Firebell will only grow in cold climates.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Partially thanks to beliefs about its more mystical properties, and partly due to its warm and spicy flavor, Firebell is used often in teas, meads, and baked goods. Especially in winter, it is common for people in Baliklav and other cold climates to drink Firebell to stave off the cold, and, maybe, protect them from the Lord of the High Mountain.
