Eryqq Orthodoxy

The Eryqq Orthodoxy is split into two groups, the High Church and Low Church, also called High Orthodox and Low Eryqqian. The High Church is much stricter, having a list of rules that must be kept and certain prayers throughout the day. All members of the Orthodoxy have a morning prayer – signaled by a bell ringing – but the High Church also prays at noon and in the evening. The Orthodoxy has a standard set of rules that they all agree on, but the High Church adds to this list greatly. More than just the extra mandatory prayers, they add ritual bathing, cleansing of food, rules about what to eat, and specific marriage laws.   Alwahid, also known as “the One Above”, is a god of light and purity. He is the god the Eryqqians actually worship. Some are stricter than others in their beliefs, but all worship Alwahid.   He is believed by the High Church to be a pervasive force, guiding their lives with a strong hand. They believe that he watches their every move, and will bless them for doing right, punishing them for doing wrong.   The Low Church believes that he created all things, and made them beautiful and right, but that he is more of a distant deity and that doing enough good to outweigh the bad brings the favor of Alwahid.   Aliadui, also known as “The Enemy” or “The Wicked One”, is a god of darkness and folly. He isn’t truly powerful, so much as he is clever. He tricks people into wrong things, making them suffer for not seeing the truth. He can’t actually force people into doing anything, but he’s just crafty enough to get a lot of people to sin. Many people believe that he is little more than a mortal. Some think he may be Alwahid’s child, while others think they are brothers, and still more think he may be a created being just like them. No one really knows much about Aliadui, as studying him is more or less forbidden, for fear that it will invite his influence.
