Nox, the Silent Duskfall Wolf

With crimson sight
he sees from afar,
Nox of the night
and moons and stars
- old Zefirua song
Too many people fear the night. They ward it off with bright lanterns and bolted doors, afraid of what hunts in the shadows. They do not realise that shadows are cast most clearly in the daytime, and they miss the beauty of full moons and clear night skies. Nox is Silent - his and his children's work cannot be understood, let alone appreciated, by most. But he does not need thanks to do his duty. Eldest of the Wolves, he stands against the Midnight as it tries to devour the world.

The Wolf of Shadows

Nox is the brightness of the constellations. He is the overwhelming majesty of the ever-changing night sky, the fury of a falling star, and the Darkness turned against itself. He is the clear, calm moonlight and the consuming moonshadow.
He is the vault of heaven when the Sun has set.
The Dark is the abyss where the moons never reach.
Nox was born when the Creator named the night. Formed from scraps of Wyral's unformed shadows, he was immediately locked in battle with the darkness. While Lyra and Sol sang and shone, Nox kept the shadows away from the infantile world. Like his twin Sol, his power only solidified when the sky was filled with light - Sol became the sun's burning radiance while Nox became the moons' silver and black.

Solitude and Starlight

Like many of his children, the night mages, Nox is rarely appreciated. He brings mortals dreams and watches over the stars, but most people only know him for fighting against the Midnight - a foe few can understand. So Nox, like his children, stays out of the way for the most part. His Temple is located in the Araen Wastes and is difficult to find, let alone enter. He does not mind solitude, but his job is thankless, and having company does one good.

Nox's Singularity

The Midnight devours. The moons defend. Nox is the Wolf of both, and his Aspect combines them to deadly effect. It is a terrible thing to anger any of the Great Wolves, and once Nox summons his Singularity, everything within is guaranteed to die.
Nox's Aspect - the the casting which embodies his power - is called a Singularity. It has almost never been used thanks to its risk and cost, in addition to Nox's efforts to hide it from the sapient races. It is described as a more powerful destruction rune, but this fails to capture its scope. Using the power of Argen, the silver moon, Nox creates a ring around an area which prevents anything from entering or leaving. Then, calling upon the darker moon Enrus, he obliterates the barrier between reality and the Midnight, pulling in and devastating everything inside the ring. To close it, however, one must fall into the deepest darkness. Only a few people can survive such an act.

The Sunderer is one of Nox's teeth, sharpened and welded to a staff of muumo - an old tree which naturally transmutes wyr. It has passed from wielder to wielder, often by force, to use its ability to cut through anything: flesh, the Midnight and its constructs, even less tangible things. Ideally it should be only be used when world-rifts open and the Midnight pours into reality, but the last battle fought over it sent it into the dark waters around Arkan.
Nox's Spears
Nox has always fought the shadows, but the shadows fight back just as hard. Not even a Great Wolf can stay unscathed for so many centuries, fighting alone against dark deities. When the Lirus - avatars of the fallen world, and the only other beings who can be called 'gods' - first stirred, Nox descended to meet them. There, in the deepest Nadir of the Midnight, the dark beings finally drew blood. Outraged, the stars themselves rained down upon the Midnight, shearing through the darkness as they rallied to defend their master. These stars impacted the real world as well, crystallising as they lacerated the stone of the Araen Wastes. When Nox emerged, weary but successful, massive rock pillars with dead stars within awaited him. These are Nox's Spears.
