Lesson 34: A Biographical Account of Vakandor the Capitalist

Vakandor (a.k.a. The Capitalist)

Vakondar, as you know, was one of the greatest minds of the 6th millennium. A scholar of the old, but a visionary. It was said she was formed by the deorum in the image of Bralm herself. In her elder years, she sat as the only adviser to the last regent of Mayn'd. (Mayn'd, as I have discovered was the most common name for the Capitol in its time.) [Edit: Mayn'd was the capitol of Dehiller, but at some time gnomish scholars began referring to the city as Dehstock. This was likely under the reign of K. Pekootaroo.] This lesson will cover her life outside of what is most commonly known.   Her parents were from the Temple of Telchur, priests wed under the Domion Acts of 4320.   She was at the top of her class in the constructive arts. 4316, she became the youngest master of the Canistratum -- the school of art education in H'liiva that we would call constructive arts. Considered as skilled as Fellrod and Candur, the first of the Yellow Branch method of tapestry, fourteen year old Vakandor chose to remain in Canistratum for another two years before moving on in her education.   From 4319 to 4329, she studied her primary educations. It is certain that she recieved high marks in the fields of historiology and liturgickal studies. I have often heard repeated the misconception that Vakandor troubled the professorate to whome she was assigned with her frequent investigations into dark and arcane apocrypha. However, I have found that the ancient scholars had not wholly abandoned such literature in education. In some circles it seems that they even embraced dark rituals to some unnamed evil, perhaps forgotten by modern elves. But I shall divulge more on that, I think, in another lesson.   To any concequence, it cannot be overstated that she was a brilliant philosopher by the time she reached adulthood. But during the time that Menash is said to have been carving the depths of Phænkill'y [Edit: around 4670-4700], she began her greatest work. She had seen the development of agriculture from amongst the Dehiller people from a very young age.   She had proven herself to be very wise in helping to manage the farm owner by one of her father's friends by the time the dwarven patrols began scouting the surface. She was eager to begin trading with the Menash military, and the farmer trusted her. The deals she made helped prove her worthiness to the regent of Mayn'd. (Through all my research, investigations, and study I have yet failed as those before me to uncover the name of the last regent of Mayn'd. Because of the tradition in that place to only refer to authorities by title, and because there are few extant records of that time, it is of little surprise the name has been lost.) In 4798, she was chosen to be one of 4 Confidelii, advisers to the regent. In 4800 her father was added to the Confidelus.   The exact dates are unknown, but by the year 4808, her father died of old age, her friend Aliethn' of treason, H'jestiu was lost to psychosis and passed, and the other Confidelii also perished in some fashion.   I believe the regent thought they had been cursed by some god, although perhaps he was just seeking refuge for his freightened nation. He issued many orders requiring ritual prayers, ordered fasting as well as feasting, and sacrifice of labors,l for the common good. Most of these were dedicated to Corellon Larethian and Yondalla, though each elven deity and Cyndor (called Ceaturnus) is mentioned in at least one of these mandates.   The last century of Vakandors life was lived in service to Yondalla. She left politics and became a wandering sage. She travelled across the Phænkill'y and to the sea, and pehaps beyond. She came back for one final year of her life in either 4916 or 4917, bearing with her a new Orison spell she'd learned about from the gods. The descriptions seem to resemble what we now name The Word of Recalling, but it may have been another spell altogether.   This has been the story of Vakandor, known as The Capitalist, citing her personal works outside of economics.
