Prof. Holden Armstrong

Prof. Holden Armstrong (a.k.a. Rotag Thruumsh)

Holden Armstrong, (born 1276, Thesk, Half-Orc Village – Died 1376) born as Rotag Thruumsh, was an intellectual prodigy in his town. At the young age of 4, his parents Urag (father) and Thaal (mother) sent him to a local city to learn since they could no longer handle his curiosity. While this is quite unusual it is important to remember that half-orcs typically grow up on their own, with little help of their parents. Most half-orcs are looking for work and leaving home around 6 or 7 anyway. Rotag traveled to the local city and quickly felt at home in the local college library where a teacher noticed the intellect of the boy. The teacher, Prof. Stanford “Stan” Kent, taught Rotag everything he knew and Rotag wrote an amazing, now critically acclaimed research paper on the natural world. However, most historians agree that this paper was quickly rebuked because of the pen name, Rotag Thruumsh. After his research failed on the merits of his name, Rotag changed his name and began referring to himself and his research under the alias, “Holden Armstrong”.   The Order of the Silver String Prof. Stanford “Stan” Kent taught everything he knew to Holden, including how to be a keeper of knowledge. Kent introduced and invited Armstrong into the Order of the Silver String. This order is made from devout followers of the deity Oghma. Oghma is also known as the Lord of Knowledge is worshipped by College of Lore Bards, cartographers, inventors, loremasters, sages, scholars, and anyone who values knowledge and truth over anything else. The most devout followers are found and invited to the Order of the Silver String by another ranking member. Members of the Order of the Silver String are known as “Companions” and can be identified by a silver scroll worn on a silver necklace around their necks. While followers of Oghma can be found in any city, the Order of the Silver String and the ‘Companions’ operate as a secret society not unlike some of the famous stone cutting societies you may have heard. The Order of the Silver String has one main goal: the free transfer and access to knowledge and truth. Whenever this right is infringed upon is whenever the Companions of the Silver String will surface. These members will vanish just as quickly as they appeared whenever the truth is allowed to flourish.

  • Prof. Armstrong can be found in the local library regularly studying to his hearts contents. Holden regularly speaks down on barbarism and simple savagery. I would NEVER stoop to that level. (He does, regularly but doesn't know it).

A New Directive, Some New Friends

The day was supposed to be a special day. The day of the new clocks unveiling. However, this day was not as it seems.   Near closing time for the festival a companion entered. He warned me of the danger the Denimene brothers were facing. He believes that the Governor will be manipulating the brothers of their new knowledge; their new power. I was tasked with protecting the brothers, though I do not have much to go on.   Soon after a goliath entered the library. Strange, she was asking questions about her race. I tried to fill her in the best I could. I find it odd that she doesn't know much about her own people. Though I must admit, my own knowledge is limited. I had never met a goliath before! However, this was only the beginning! She seemed to be interested in employment though her interview did not go very well. She let some teenagers run towards the exit with a book! Not a great first day... However, her curiosity on a variety of topics is refreshing. She instantly took an interest to the book that was recovered, a book on explosives. Naturally I helped her understand the uses for construction and deconstruction purposes. She would be a good student. I am not sure if she will make for a good assistant yet, though she likely can be no worse than my current assistant, Gabi Penrose. A kenku came in as well, though this creature was asking about transmutation. I of course told it everything one would need to know about transmutation. She began studying right away! I am sure they would make for a great pupil.   The goliath, who I later learned is name Aster has an amazing desire for knowledge. She asked me about a being who 'always casts a shadow' since she had seen someone cast two shadows! How curious! I cannot recall where I have heard of this before but I need to do some more research on this.   Aster, Kenku, and I left for the town square to protect the brothers. I had a bad feeling about this...   After some interesting piano playing at the square I noticed a group of people begin chasing Albert. I tried my hardest but I could not keep up. I hope he is okay. This failure would be unbecoming of a new Silver Sentinel. After losing Albert's trail, I circled back to warn Robert. He then led us to Albert's lab. We discovered a red hand outline on his door. This is not a good sing.   The Order of the Red Hand is an underground anarchist society. They are never up to any good.   During our rescue attempt I met some new people. There was Gwen, a dwarf who wields a large hammer and there was Armando who seemed a bit too winded for just running for a bit. They were accompanying Cas, a strange being who I have had difficulty getting a read on. How curios.
