The Twisted Road

The Twisted Road is a popular three-volume novel, written by Illan Ederuch, and published in 682.   It explores themes of circularity, interconnected fate and free will. Within the story, two narrative paths spiral around each other like a double helix. The first path concerns Prince Ahrim Maniesta of Mestria, and the House of Maniesta, and the second is about Duke Solaster of Western Mestria. Two simultaneous decisions begin the three volume novel: Prince Ahrim decides to buy the eastern half of the Maniesta Valley, and Duke Solaster imports the well-known theologian and intellectual Hanri Tius to his domain.   The story follows the consequences of these decisions. Prince Ahrim purchases the land from a minor baron, with family links to the Solaster family. The decision by Prince Ahrim impacts indirectly upon the Solaster household. The response of the Solaster household has indirect repercussions for the Maniestas and so forth. Likewise, the Solaster decision follows the same pattern. In the end, through various pathways, including aristocratic marriage, eviction of tenants, death, arrest and execution etc., the two principal characters find themselves in their starting situation once again.
