World E

The world in which the "Revenge of the Black Dragon" campaign takes place is a dark, sad one. The campaign is set five hundred years after The Calamity, an apocalypse that shook kingdoms to rubble, burned the seas, and unleashed nameless monstrosities upon the world.    At this point in time, the governments and kingdoms decimated by the Calamity have either rebuilt to a fraction of their former glory or been replaced by new leaders. But universal safety is still far from a guarantee for anyone. Creatures ripped straight from the deepest, darkest nightmares imaginable still stalk the wilds on every continent. From the far north remains the Blood Storm, still spilling its crimson rain, turning those it touches into mad, slavering beasts. The few countries that managed to rebuild now fortify their walls, hesitant to offer safety to any outsiders.    No one knows if The Calamity might strike again, and as before, no one knows what might trigger it. Suspicion and paranoia run amok, but keep many alive just as effectively as any sword, gun or spell. But now, rumors spread of dragon scales being discovered deep within the Felsbrocken mountain range, and more fears emerge. Ancient fears of fire in the sky and winged death that are older than the Calamity, but no less real.   Regardless of the truth behind these rumors, one must always remember that death lurks in every shadow and over every horizon. Trust is as rare as gold, but not half as valuable. Worship is equally worthless in these lands that seem to draw no more love or pity from once vigilant gods. Keep your tongue as sharp as your steel, and you may just survive.
