Magick Consulate

To many, the use of magic is no more mystical or difficult than the use of a shovel or pick, a sword, or a brush on canvas. The magics they wield they consider tools, their skill honed by practice and repetition. But to others, magic is a sacred thing. The ancient energies that shape and twist the world, and are in turn shaped and used by powerful people, are regarded as reverent and deserving of the utmost worship. To these people, magic is a religion, not a weapon or a tool. When Nandolar the First published her tome of magical research, and the masses at large learned how to harness and command these strange powers, two factions emerged. The first would become the Mages Council, consisting of wizards, sorcerers, and warlocks seeking to understand and hone their abilities, and how magic could precisely be utilized. The second faction became the Magick Consulate. Based on faith instead of education, the Consulate and its followers were of the belief that magic and its many different forms are manifestations into the world of extradimensional gods, beings so powerful that the simple act of moving in their realm could have major repercussions within our own plane of existence. To the followers, known as Magicians, the use of magic by anyone not ordained within their religion is a profane act. The highest ranking league of Magicians, known as the Holy Circle, are responsible for punishing those that they deem heretical, primarily the legions of wizards and sorcerers that flow ceaselessly from Esseast. The Knights of the Holy Circle are vicious warriors that punish without mercy or judgment. They are some of the few Magicians allowed to wield magic forces, and do so dangerously, having trained their entire lives for that sole purpose, and many Knights are equally matched to the highest ranking members of the Mages Council. Unlike the Council that controls Esseast, the Magick Consulate never found a host country, and after attempting several unsuccessful wars to gain control of any land, seemed to fade into legend. Magicians can still be found throughout Vallione and Draklos, but never in Esseast, where it is one of the very few banned practices. They exist in small pockets here and there but myth persists that the Knights of the Holy Circle still exist and grow their forces in secret, carrying out secret assassinations to slowly destabilize the Mages Council, as well as any other governing bodies that profane magic practices. Legend states that they practice the dark arts of necromancy under the delusion that it is the only course of magic available that might allow the gods to enter their own dimension.
