Dragon Cult

Vigori's fury was not just limited to his physical abilities. Like all Terran races, dragons are capable of harnessing magic, and Vigori was exceptionally talented at it. At night, his voice would creep like fog into weak minds, whispering promises of wealth and fame and power, should they assist him in his war. His words were as sweet and as irresistible as fresh honey, and easily clogged the ears and minds of many young soldiers whose minds were closing in on the idea of desertion. Numerous accounts of the war document how at any given point in a battle, anywhere from a single soldier to an entire platoon would turn their weapons upon their own friends with no hesitation or warning. After the war and Vigori's death, there were many that still suffered from Vigori's mind control. The magics he had woven were corrupted upon the Great Black Dragon's death, and many Terrans that had been brainwashed now found themselves without purpose or meaning. Drawn together by unseen forces, these victims eventually found one another, and swore to never rest until their master was returned to life. For a time following the war, governments of the world were ravaged by fears of the Dragon Cult, as rumors circulated that they could summon wings, were covered in scales, and could breathe fire at will. In truth, the cultists were in fact poorly organized and without any leader to direct them. Over the years, the magics Vigori had utilized wore off, and brainwashing was replace with fanatical zealotry. Around the time the world began to forget the cult was when they truly came into power. Electing leaders, recruiting fresh blood, and strengthening their goals, the cult grew fast and silently well outside of the world's sight, though they remained well rooted in myth. The Calamity was a major catalyst, as the Cultists took it as a sign that Vigori's spirit was becoming angry at how little progress they had made. Since then, the group has begun to slowly bleed into the light, and now many recognize their signature robes and daggers. The Cultists still remain mostly secretive and hidden, disguising their true agendas so none may suspect what they are actually up to.
