Cinder

Moradin (character), god of creation, once took interest in the natural creation of land itself. He found an unassuming patch of seabed and commanded magma to rise from the crust, eventually creating the volcanic island of Cinder. Recognizing the difficulty of surviving on such terrain, he created a sturdy band of halflings to work and farm the land. Cinder is a valuable harbor for trade. This value makes it one of the first islands annexed by the nearby Ignis. It also created tensions with the native halflings who loath the intruding aliens from Ignis. Prior to its annexation, the local halflings relied on farming the land for sustenance as was their god-given duty. Upon the arrival of Ignan peoples, they adapted the bay into a bustling trade depot. The beautiful beaches also began to attract tourists, so the island gradually became known primarily as a vacation destination. Although the first halflings were aware of their duty as decreed by Moradin, this knowledge was lost through the generations. They now pray to Pelor for good harvests, although their prayers are unheard. Their temple to Pelor is the only one on the island, as most Ignin residents are temporary; they fulfill their duty of devotion wherever they call home.

Geography

The volcanic nature of the island makes it incredibly rocky. To the south lies a moderately sized volcano which has been dormant for over a century. To the north is a large double-crescent bay, which serves both as a natural harbor and as the island's namesake (it makes the island look like burning cinders). The warm surrounding waters gave rise to enormous coral reefs which feed the island's beautiful white sand beaches. South of the volcano is an impact crater which forms another bay. Map:

Fauna & Flora

Cinder has supported populations of halflings, wolves, and kobolds for centuries. These have been around since its creation. Tropical plants also sprouted to form a jungle around the base of the volcano, as well as along the shore.

Natural Resources

Many common agricultural foods are common on the island, but most are used by the permanent halfling population. The primary export is the fish caught by colonizing Ignins.
