Early age
Even from an early age, Prince William showed an affable nature, and a bookish disposition. However, his father would try to push him into more martial pursuits throughout his upbringing.
Later in life, after developing a friendship with Prince Garth Norwyn, they both would try to better the relationship between both realms after generations of strife and tension. Although these attempts would be unsuccessful during his time as Crown Prince.
Ascension to the throne
The first years of King William's rule were peaceful, and prosperous. The tensions with the nobility, which had boiled over during his father's reign, finally began to subside, as more concessions were granted. And King William would soon position himself as a patron of the arts, as well as investing in the betterment of the kingdom's infrastructure.
The city of -----, the first large settlement in the far west since the fall of the empire, had always been a point of contention among the civilized realms for decades. There were many who were rightfully worried about what a strong far west could entail for the fate of the realms. However, King William had always been in the minority, arguing for a more peaceful path, welcoming the budding kingdom. He would go so far as to invite the Wildling court to feasts and tourneys. And he also held meetings with King Wulfhram, as he would exchange prisoners, offer tribute, and even open merchant right between both kingdoms. This would remain the only point of contention between King William and his people. Even as King William also increased the protections of the capital, as well as the border forts.
The Fourth Great War of the Wild
In 1384, the tensions between the Westfold and the King of the Wild came to a boiling point, as a raiding party with royal banners was seen attacking villages. This ended up forcing King William's hand, as everyone in the realm worried for another Wild King invading the West. Even reports of an amassing wildling army came to court. Soon old defensive pacts were called, but the only realm to answer immediately was The Middlands.
